OK so my petrol vrs is 5 years old now so although its only done 17000 miles I have decided to get the cam belt done as I'm getting a bit windy about it :|

Firstly I want to ask a silly question, is the cam belt changing period the same for petrol and diesel (4y or 60k) because my handbook says 90k.

Also, I have been quoted 275 for cam belt kit and water pump change. Sounded good to me, is it? Is there anything else I should be gettin done at the same time.

275 inc VAT and water pump is a good price imho.

Keep an eye on how it runs afterwards though. There's been a few people on here recently who have had running problems due to cam belt being a tooth out when refitted.

seems like decent price , it must from an independent though, I got mine done at a local vag specialist for a similar price and its been fine

It'll be closer to £400 from Skoda.

For my Fabia VRS I paid close to £350 using an independent garage, also adding a new auxiliary belt and renewed G12 anti-freeze included, still a long way from £275. !!!!

VW is doing belt and pump for £400 as a fixed price offer. I'd be surprised if Skoda wouldn't match that.

I was £320 at an indy.

Don't forget to make sure sure they change the strech bolts on the engine mounts, these are around £20 for the set (5 maybe 6 bolts iirc)

you'd be amazed how many cambelt kits and water pumps we supply and they dont want the bolts :'(

Very good price, but a bit far from where i live. I have a quote of about 400 from my local Skoda, but water pump will be changed only if needed they say.

You could ask to check the alternator belt.

im currently down in kent and went to skoda caffyns in ashford orbatal he said the following needs changing every four years or 120 thou miles what ever comes first.

belt was 156

labour 250

if wanted belt and water pump together it was over 500 quid .

i did want a service as well but with that price ill find another garage

There's a special offer at Motorline Skoda Canterbury (and Dartford) for cambelt kit at 289 all inclusive if water pump needs to be changed you'll add about 80. Similar quotes are available at Adamsons Skoda in Walmer (deal).

I must have fallen lucky with my 1.9 TDI PD belt.

Had the cambelt and water pump done just a few weeks ago, cost me £75 for a genuine VW belt off ebay, £35 for a genuine water pump from the dealers (once the old one was returned as required), and my local garage fitted everything for £100.

Total cost £210.

Will be going down the same route when I have the belt and pump done on SWMBO's Leon TDI.

Was that just the belt Mike, or belt, tensioner and idler (if there is an idler on the 1.9)?

Andy, that was complete kit, belt, rollers, tensioners, new bolts and water pump. All genuine VAG parts too
