Boost Pipe Keeps Blowing Off

Featured Replies

Hey Folks....

Boost pipe keeps coming off on me, 2 times today already I've had to get this sorted(the local tyre garage helped me out!). SO I get home and it comes off again and I can't seem to find an easy way to get it back on.

It's the pipe at intercooler(at the headlight more or less) down at a hard angle to get at!!

Any help/advice would be great

Thanks in advance....

Seen as it's come off twice already the lugs on the pipe must be knackered, I'm assuming the pipe has been secured with the clip properly when putting it back on ?

Only way to fix it is to get a new pipe or make your own up with stainless/silicone pipes.

worn pipe stubs and clips for sure, really naff design. Cable ties will effect a temp repair, but you will need to remove the headlight to do a half decent job. That means bumper or slam panel off.

Ok, I was thinking something like a new part maybe needed. Do these cost much?

Mine has done this twice over the weekend, ordered a new part (35 inc o rings) Monday, arrived tonight, fitting tonight/tomorrow. Aa helped out both times with cable ties, although managed to get headlight out without bumper removal - how much difference does this make? Obviously only for temporary fix when they did it, but is it necessary for correct replacement of pipe? - sorry for thread hi-jack!

Headlight out only needed if beefing up the joint will cable ties and jubilee clips. Similar to method in pic below.

Pic shows anti rattle pad mod for engine cover, but also boost joint mod at the top pipe.

Ok cool ta, the pipe that's blown on mine is the next one down fitted to smic, the flexi right angle one, and headlight out seemed to make the job a lot easier, although would be possible without. It's only 4 screws to take it out, so may as well to make my life easier haha!

Must get the part tomorrow....do you know the part no for it and the rings?

I was hoping to head out later tonight but a bit wary driving without this attached so I'll just have to sit in! Would it do any damage driving without it for the night?

This is where my problem lies

Reattach with cable ties as temporary fix mate, has it blown at the bottom where its a pita to get to? Aa guy swapped mine round, so that broken end was up top and therefore easier to get to.

Pipe: F6Q0145834D

O rings: F6Q0145117A

Edit: yep that's the bad boy, same as mine! Try cable ties on it as temp fix, and take it easy driving!

I'm not sure if I've got the wrong end of the stick, but the way I understand it is the pipework leads into the engine after that, which would be unfiltered straight out the engine bay, so could cause crap to get in? I'm probably wrong lol, but that's the way I understood it

Never tried that, it's a nightmare to even get any pressure to push it in. Tho I don't think I've any cable ties to hand :(

Cheers for the part numbers too.

i would not take the car out if i were you because it will just blow off again and you may get stranded

Good point lol

New pipes comes with the o rings on it, did one for a chap on Saturday.

Is there a list anywhere on here of all the parts and part numbers for the replacement (samco?) hoses, aftermarket that is...

Samco don't make replacement hoses for the push fit connections as far as I'm aware.

So its oem and stick with the smic, or go down fmic route with uprated piping..

My top pipe to the egr is loose so i guess i will try the cable tie for now.

on closer inspection earlier I've actually noticed that the part on the intercooler(where this click/clips into place) is slightly broken. Does this mean a new intercooler too? or could I 'DIY' this with a jubilee clip to keep it secure?

nope take bumper off, and intercooler out,

then 4 self tappers at 90 degree angles around the collar of the intercooler through the collar off the boost pipe, costs pence and will never break again...

also no loss of boost as i ran 173bhp like this on an rr....

make sure no swarf gets left in intercooler or pipes

mike07vrs has done a thread on replacement samco hoses and forge couplings also using the vrs dovit pipe

here it is

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/191713-progress-thread-my-vrs-so-far/page__hl__boost+pipe+fix__st__120

but note that he had a 60mm straight through coupling which when i asked forge they sed they dont make anymore so you have to go for a type A i think with a 51mm pipe (i think lol)

As previously mentioned all you would do is buy the type A and instead of a reducing 45 degree bend you would buy a ID 51mm 45 degree bend, other than that everything is the same. Done over 500 miles with the new set up not a problem, this has included some very hard driving which would probably have blown the pipes previously. The price you'll pay for the 2 oem pipes isn't much less than you'd pay to replace the full lot!

Save you reading through my progress thread, heres the guide;

Headlight will come out with no need to remove the above. Thou it is fiddly

cable ties are your best friend! are you still running the standard intercooler kev?

Cheers people...I'm away to a mates now to try resolve this once and for all!!

moggytech - what size jubilee's have you used? i seem to be having problems with the lower smic pipe [the 1 below it] i dont know if i can do anything with this 1 but could be worth doing the others just incase anyway

cheers mark
