Foils time again

Featured Replies

Still waiting as patiently as possible for my SM to be delivered.

The wait is assisted by reading the threads, and looking at the photos, from a lot of very happy owners.

I hadn't realised, though, that the protective film Skoda put over the number plates - to protect it from flying stone chips - has a remarkable side effect of rendering the number plate unreadable in photographs. It is an interesting phenomenon and one that I am glad that drivers of certain age who drive Subaru Impratsas and Mitsubishi Evosticks don’t know about.

Of course Yeti drivers don’t exceed the speed limit so will never set a speed camera off, would we?

And if we do inadvertently get snapped it’s reassuring to know we won’t get an official looking letter, in the post, a week later

thank you Skoda

I think it's more likely that the film you talk about is the protective film that is on all perspex/plastic number plates and fitters should remove when attaching them to a vehicle. I have never heard that that film fools speed cameras :wonder:

I thought Bohica was joking about how we mostly hide our plates in photos

The plates show up just fine on the cameras! :smirk:

Not long ago there was a programme about these "masking" foils for number plates, and not one of them worked. One worked slightly, but all they did was go into "negative" mode and you could read the plate perfectly.

The most interesting comment was from the Policeman being interviewed; he said, " Well it just marks them up as someone we need to keep an eye out for!"

I thought Bohica was joking about how we mostly hide our plates in photos

If that is the case much too subtle for me I'm afraid, perhaps he will try another one later :|
