Wiper movement when connecting battery - normal?

Featured Replies

Get a small spark and the front wipers jump for a second when connecting the battery negative terminal. Otherwise the wipers work fine. I always assumed this was normal, but on Googling can't find any mention of the phenomenon. Is this normal for the Fabia?

TIA

On the Octavia, when you turn off ignition , or on the wipers do jump sometimes, it helps the motor so it does not seize ( maybe the same

by the way connect the positive first, then connect the negative. Go ahead and slip with the wrench all you want when connecting the negative – it’s already connected to the car body, and you won’t create a short circuit.(Spark

That's the way I always do it  I assume the spark is due to the power drain of the wiper motor activating for a brief period.

Once reconnected the battery a number of times and the wipers had moved an inch up the screen. When I turned the key to ignition on, the wipers completed the sweep, moving into the parked position. I'm beginning to think this is a fault of some sort with the Central Electrics unit.
