T1-R and Parada Spec-2 in the wet

Featured Replies

It's almost tyre time, and I'm a ponce that likes good looking tyres. Been on the Toyo's for just over 2 years - not as good as the Eagle F1's I had before, but much cheaper and do last quite a bit longer.

Now I do love the look of the Parada's but all I've heard about them is that they're toss in the wet. So I'm after anyone who's had the Toyos as well to tell me if they're close to them, come some rain? Are they actually bad? Or are they just 'bad compared to more all-weather tyres' which you can also say about the Toyos?

I don't mind them being a little off, they're a summer tyre after all. But if they're really a 'dry only' tyre then It's not really the time of year to be getting them and I'll go for the Toyos again.

And lastly, sorry for another tyre thread.

T1Rs are a good tyre - I found them to be good in the dry and fairly good in the wet.

Paradas are on a whole other level in the dry - so much better, but they really aren't the best in the wet. They are fine for day to day driving to the shops etc, but are 'entertaining' when pushed a little.

I find that the wet performance of the Yokos can vary massively dependending on; 1) the amount of surface water, and 2) the quality of road surface - it can catch you out during a spirited drive where there is a variation in the quality of road surface.

I use T1R Toyo Proxes for my "summers"...very good in the wet....much better than the Michelins and Pirellis that I've had in the past as an all round tyre!! B)

I had both Parada spec 2's and toyo T1-R's on my corsa back in the day. i would say that the wet weather ability of the Toyo T1-R more than makes up for the Yoko's dry weather abilities.

Worth noting my Corsa(when fitted with the Yoko's)came to an untimely end 3 weeks after i sold it to a local 18yr old lad when he understeered into a tree down a country lane.... arguably his lack of experience, but i like to think it's show's up the Yoko's weaknesses in the wet.

What's your budget? Id rather go for a better tyre in terms of performance than looks.

Cheers for the comment everyone,

TBH Parada's would be the top end of my budget. I can get the Toyos for about 15 quid less per corner from Camskill again (when they get stock back in).

I was hoping to get decent performance with an aesthetic tread too. The Rainsports were a fallback, but not sure how they compare to anything I've used.

I got the Fab with Conti's on, had a couple of years with the Eagle GSD3's (fantastic) and been on Toyo's since. So not really sure what's around the Toyo's price range with similar/better performance. The Parada's keep being raved about for the dry grip, but totally rained on (excuse the pun) when it comes to greasy/wet roads.

Whilst I can agree with your comment for 'all weather' performance, any chance of you naming a better dry (day to day - i.e. no R888) tyre for performance than a Yoko Parada Spec 2?

I find R888 to have rather good dry on damp/greasy roads... only when properly wet or standing water that they are skittish!

but i am talking in relative terms, but people think the R888's will be useless on anything but the driest of roads and thats simply not the case

Cannot speak any higher of Continental conti sport contacts 3s. They were amazing wet or dry. Cant speak of the others but Pradas do look good ;)

I agree with above, half worn Toyos wasn't that great in dealing with deep standing water. I can remember getting aquaplaning on a soping wet duel-carriageway @ 60mph. :o

In normal wet conditions they are fine. Being soft they were OK when the temperatures got cold too. I can't comment on Yokos, but so far I'm impressed with these Rainsports I recently bought.

I have T1r's on the VRS and the Clio for normal roads and they average in every weather combination, not great but good considering the price. I have just bought a new set of Paradas for the Clio purely for the trackdays and I have to tell you they are better in the dry with more grip than the T1r's but when wet they are awfull, almost lethal in my opinion unless you drive like a granny. Wear rate is quicker for the Paradas as they are very soft. One plus for the Paradas is that they are cheap. Don't buy tyres because of the tread pattern, that just silly.

I agree, track day or fast road tyres are still better in the wet than average tyres.. its just the standing water they cant cope with...

I have cont 2's on the new vRS and have to say they are excellant tyres, so the 3's must be better! brilliant wet or dry.. BUT bloody expensive (£120+ for my car EACH) and have only lasted 12k, am about to replace the fronts with Khumo KU31's, £130 the pair fitted! http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Kumho/Ecsta-KU31.htm

I'll write a review in the fabia II section when I've done some miles on them

I was going to say, thats the only negative

I wasn't happy with my T1-R's after I did a track day. They just melted and wasn't very good.

Fingers crossed for the Parada's.

I saw the pics! I was a bit shocked, just like someone had gone at the tread with a blowtorch...

I just put some vredestein ultrac sessanta on my furby, very impressed so far even in wet weather. plenty of good reviews about them too

Also very well priced at £87 a corner

They will "melt" quicker than the T1r's Luke.

Iv heard a couple of people say similar about the t1-r's where as the yoko's seem to be THE tyre for hard use so I'd hold more hope for them. Iv got toyo's but don't really hoon it much lol

I've read great things about them, however I didn't think you could get them in Fabia vRS size.

What u mean in a Fabia vrs size standard wheels?

I have 215/40/17 on my furby

I see.

As you probably know, Standard wheels on Fabias are 205/45 16. For that size you can only get the Sportrac 3s, although I've seen some places sell Ultrac Centos.
