Buying another superb - need advice on values.

Recommended Posts

Hi, I’m looking to buy one of two Superbs in the next couple of days and would like members feedback on what they should be worth.

The first is an Elegance 1.9 PD manual on a 56 plate – face lifted version, FSH with 112K miles on the clock.

The second is an Elegance 2.5 Tiptronic on a 07 plate – face lifted version, FSH with 97K miles on the clock.

Both appear to be in good condition and have privacy glass etc.

Cheers,

Chris.

Glass's trade-in value lists the first one at £3280, if in excellent condition, average £2980.

Second, £4650 for excellent condition, £4260 average cond.

Are you buying privately or from a dealer? This will affect how much is added onto these values, for either retail or private sale.

hi there

im not sure on buying prices but remember the running cost..

i like the noise of a v6 and love the tiptronics,

because driving should be about getting from a to b effortlessly, and the tip' will do that.

but i hate the running cost and higher tax associated with it.

also my last tiptronic was due for tax renewal(in june) and i nearly fainted, (i bought the car with 5 months rent on it)and that was only a 130pd tip 4 cylinder rattle box 52plate, when i came round i decided to sell it !

god knows what the tax class would be on the diseasal v6 auto,

my heart would say v6 tip

but my wallet would win, 1.9pd every time, purely from an economics point of view

i know its a boring way to wheedle out what you drive but tax and running costs only go one way, thanks to the unique way we are governed !

either way, which ever one tickles your fancy, check everything, quite literally, gen up on all the issues on here, theres loads of help to be had, and both 6 or 4cyliners suffer with many of the same issues body related

check out a comparison for servicing at dealers/or specialists, and timing belt prices, it could sway prospective new buyers

enjoy!

Your second choice sounds very similar to this:

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2772612.htm

At £2345 markup, taking Glass's value, I'd suggest this was overpriced. Depends what the market can bear I suppose, but I'd reckon the market isn't exactly strong currently.

Yes - that is the second one, well spotted.

The forst is this one:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Skoda-superb-1-9-tdi-130bhp-mot-tax-/230639303215?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item35b32c7a2f

I want an L&K or Elegance. 1.9 or 2.5. want to spend up to 5.5K ideally.

I can ger the 07 model at Boss for £6.5

Not sure where else to look!

Cheers,

Chris

Hmm, how much is the tax?

For the 1.9 I would say a maximum of £5k, I wouldn't even entertain the V6 for tax and tiptronic reasons and the cream leather (unless you wear a suit every day)

It shows the price as £8,995.00 on the price tag in the window, but the website says it is £6,995.00? £8,995.00 would give a mark up of £4,395.00!

hi again

also the guy on the flea bay has a few other cars for sale,Hmmm, small time trader?? probably with a lower case t then !

and the tip' is a trade as well,

my first rule of buying any cars is never trust or buy from a dealer/trader, it may offend but why would anyone buy at an over inflated price with the same old promises and the usual salesman pleasantries only to have a car that crumbles and turns into the car from hell, buy privately every time, and be choosey, it has served me very well, remember they can usually offer credit (at an un favourable rate) and there's salesman wages and rates blah,blah...

the sticker price is optimistic, and the climate isnt great for large cars with a bad reputation, even if some of its unfair.

then given that reputation , why is it for sale???, people dont sell good cars on the whole, they get rid of tired or troublesome cars, usually to dealers ( sorry i that offends)

second rule of buying anything, if you are not embarrassed by your offer, then you are paying too much, this may offend also but you are the buyer with the money!

Yes, the guy on ebay is obviously a dealer - I called him and he said he was "selling it for a friend" - he also said it was an L&K - when in fact it is an Elegance!

If it were me, I'd plump for a 1.9 PD130, Elegance or L&K. 2.5 isnt' economical for what it is, and the power output doesn't make up for it. Plus the tax as mentioned. Plus the auto box, as 'old school' autos on a diesel do tend to push up a tax bracket (or two!).

Unless you want a money pit, a 1.9 PD 5 speed manual is the only power unit which is cheap to run to a high mileage. It needs proper careful maintenance with the correct fluids and good quality parts.

Don't buy a car that has ever seen any water under the carpets - even if it's been "fixed". Cars which have been wet are a long term electrical nightmare.

The dearer versions are nice if you like leather seats (I don't) but the gadgets are rubbish. Expect trouble with all of the higher options such as reversing sensors (I use my towbar), displays and electric seats. The build quality of this car is not up to the complexity of the higher specified versions. The basic vehicle will run to starship mileages if you buy the right version and look after it.

rotodiesel.
