CR140 or CR170 - Engine Type Identification

Featured Replies

Chaps, anyone advise me where I can see that the engine I have in my Yeti is a CR170 unit? Popped the hood, and cant see any logo's anywhere other than TDi. Rear logo says TDi 4x4, just interested. Not got the V5 yet.

Correct me if I am wrong:-

TDi = 110

TDi = 140

TDi = 170

TDi = 170

Never knew that. Very subtle. I notice it also has polished exhaust pipes like the VRS. Only way from rear of guessing it is a CR170?

Rockhopper, thanks for that, daftoclock question old boy, where do I see that code in the engine bay?

Look @ the 5th digit on the VIN - should be 'E'

No need to lift the bonnet :thumbup:

Even lifting the bonnet was a 5 minute job Robin, could I find the lever as shown in the manual on the drivers side? Nope! Passenger side it was there.

Sorry because i am offtopic, but tsi how its like?

1.4 tsi (i with red)

1.8 tsi (t and i with red)

Its corect??

I can't believe that so far no one has interjected with:

Foot down - if 140bhp then progress is sharp but with a slight delay at the beginning, if 170bhp then your wig flies off.

170bhp drivers have always talked about the smoothness and speed off the mark so the feeling should be distinct.

The same should apply with the petrol engines.

Jeez only hardcore SM Briskoders are going to know all the colour connotations our TDi & TSi badges mean for engine sizes. I need a big CR170 on the rear.

I removed mine..... it's now a 1.2tsi, but under the bonnet is a fire breathing remapped CR140 emoticon-0140-rofl.gif with around 180bhpemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

By the way. Have a look in your owners book. The engine code will be in there on the front page, listed with all the option codes. Don't ask what they all mean though emoticon-0140-rofl.gif, I suspect TP has a guide posted somewhereemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Have a look at the build sticker in the spare wheel well or in the service book, it should tell you power of your car in kilowatts. 103kW is 140bhp and 125kW is 170 bhp.

There is an E in VIN and the TDi is there too. Thanks gents, bit of sleuth work needed to uncover it though!

Doesn't it feel almost as fast as your vRS?

Oh yes it goes like stink, but was purely curious about what differentiates this model from others.

I guess it must be different for the Octavia as my VIN starts "TMBAE" and I know it has the 140 bhp BKD engine.

I think I see a progression from 'enthusiast' to 'anorak' coming on here. :giggle:

I prefer the 'foot to the floor' method! ;)

Trust me boys I "know" it is a CR170, from the VIN, to the TDi, to the tail pipes chromed up, even when getting the insurance and typing in reg comfirmed this, but I guess the problem is the amount of variants of the 2.0 TDi engine.

Oh and yes, I have plantied the foot to the floor and it works.

Just thought that I ought to get a TDI badge for Kevin now; instead of the TDI that he has.

Well seeing as Kev is 15-20 more PS than mine, I think it should be TDi x Shark B)

...or leave it as is and smirk as you see the smile wiped off the faces of the boy racers in their body kitted 1.0 litre hatchbacks. :rofl:
