Sunset glass from B-pillar back

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've read in several places that when you "tint" back windows of the car, it also protects its interior from UV rays, filters heat from the sun... I would like to know if the factory option "Sunset glass from B-pillar back" has just a private purpose or if it also has the same benefits from the post-factory options.

Thanks in advance,

Javi

I couldn't give you the technical answer but in practical terms, my kids were forever complaining about sitting in the back of the last family car I had ( a Volvo with tinted glass) they were either too hot or it was too bright etc. Since getting the Elegance combi with sunset glass they haven't complained once (in six months) that has got to make the option price worth it if for no other reason!

Thank you very much!!!

I've phoned my seller to ask him to add it... He said he didn't know if it would be possible to do so without canceling the order :-(

Thank you very much for your kind reply!

I have it on my Steel grey Combi and I believe it makes a difference so long at the windscreen isn't facing the sun. I reverse park so the back of the car faces the sun and even after a whole day in full sun it's definitely cooler than my previous car which had no tinted windows. It certainly suits the Combi too :)

Does anyone know if this could be retro-fitted?

I bought a second hand 2010 combi, but it does not have the sunset glass. Having a 4 month old little girl, I would like to have it fitted if it works.

Cheers

Yes of course from the B pillar back, after market kit is fine there are plenty of window tinters about!

Check out your local area's yellow pages!

Just check it afterwards for quality purposes!

I had mine tinted after I bought it as I wanted it darker than the sunset glass and also prefer the film as it gives more security. cost was about £300.00 but remember it is illegal to have the front windows done. there are plenty of places around in Essex that do it but ask to look at some examples of their work first

It would not be cost effective to retro fit it (replacement glass) but as has been said the windows can be tinted - just remember that this is a modification so will require you to notify your insurance company and may well attract an increase in your premium.

I have Black and it gets pretty hot on the outside in full sun but the Sunset glass does seem to work as the interior keeps pretty cool.

I have had several estate cars in the past without Sunset and the interiors became ovens.

Well worth the money, IMO.

I'll second that, works a treat.

I always open the tailgate as I am approaching the car (electric tailgate) so some of the heat has gone from the car when I get in it, but on saying that, it is certainly cooler than previous cars and also SWMBO's Golf.

So is it the glass or the shade? would the custom fit shades do the same job, or do tints work better, the cost is the same.

Hot black leather is not nice in summer. :sun: :sun: :sun:

I still can't make my mind up, I removed the sunset glass from my options when the combi custom fit shades post went up here. I like the idea of taking them out in winter.

I've also seen a lot people say the sunset glass is not very dark, and I haven't seen it first hand to decide for myself, but having ordered the car in White I think dark windows would look good.

I live near Bradford and so I'm not short of tinting companies to checkout.

I have Sunset glass on my SE estate and it's not as dark as I really want and I am considering adding more tint to the sides to make it as dark as I have had on my 3 previous cars that have have after Market tint added.

As far as I understand this after Market tints are plastic pieces that they cut when they install it into the car, I mean there are no Superb specific ones, right? so it depends on the mechanic skills if it fits better or worst?? for the back big window, do they use one piece or two or more? if more than one, how is the union between them? it easy to see the union?

These slices glued into the window, doesn't screw up when the window are open and closed? (after a lot of ups and downs?)

What about the edges of the slices in the windows, I mean, how is the edge once its applied onto the window? like a sticker? a little bent on the border?

I told my seller to add the sunset extra to my car a couple of weeks ago but he told me today that it cannot be modified or they would have to re-asign me a new build week... He told me that it can be done when it arrives, but I don't trust them too much, since they are not specialized in this kind of things, right? or any Skoda seller would be good with it?

I spoke to a few fitters, they remove the trim and tint the glass from top to bottom, then re fit the trim.

That way you can't see any joins, but I think you need to see some past jobs to gauge how good the fitter is.

I have watched a couple of tinters in action, each piece of glass is done in a single piece of film, they tend to leave a few mm at the top of each window that opens (so the film does not come unstuck when the windows are closed) this cannot be seen when the windows are closed - but can if you are looking for it when they are open.

The trick is to use good quality film and have a good person to apply it.
