Ordering a Estate, what options to tick

Featured Replies

Hi all, well as the title suggests what options should I tick. Im going for the Elegance version of the estate in a few weeks fingers crossed.

My own basic specs for the car are:

2.0Tdi 170BHP version in either Russo Brunnello or Aqua Blue.

Not to sure wheter to go with the DSG gearbox or stick with the manual.

18" Themisto alloys

Sunset glass

15mm suspension drop

Upgraded speakers

Self parking, cant remember is it standard or a option, if option is it worth it?

Wood inserts

Ivory seats and black carpet

MDI

Thats it so far, any other suggestions for what to tick?

Cheers

Firts of all what I fiend most usefull options

1)3 Spoke multi steering wheels! It is thicker and so much better feel compared to 4 spoke

2) Electronic rear boot

3) Heated front screen

Do not go for Sports suspension -15mm !!! It is waste of money i you want more sporty look car order aftermarket springs and you will see result !

I ordered sports suspension on mine and i did not even noticed that it is lower then other superb's I saw on street...

So now on order for me -40 mm springs from H&R

Spare wheel was a must on my options list.

For me personally, at the time of order I definitely wanted the DSG, had a drive in both the 170 and V6 Elegance with DSG, very smooth.

Other must haves not already mentioned above included pano sunroof and heated screen and washers.

 +1 for the spare wheel.

Forget the DSG and go for the 170 4x4! - 4x4 system is excellent, as is the manual box. (140 4x4 now available with DSG)

I ordered Park Assist, rather than just the front sensors - it's rarely used as a parking device, but the front sensors come in handy as it is the length of a small town.

Wood inserts look old-man, as does the Red colour (IMHO of course!) the silver dash-inserts look much more modern.

Ivory will be great, as long as you dont ware denim too often!

Heated screen works like a charm.

Al.

I posted the following in this thread but I have added the Bold blue bits as a mini review now I have had the car 7 months.

I bought an Aqua Blue 170 Elegance with the following options:

1) Alloy wheels - 7.5J x 18 'Luna' - Much better than the 'Themitso's' IMO, both in looks, for cleaning and will not get the dreaded 'white worm' (corrosion on the polished bits) Still love the Luna's and they are easy to clean. :thumbup:Even the insides whilst they are still on the car :giggle:

2) Auto dimming rear view mirror - Pity the door mirrors do not dim (in the UK), but a great addition anyway Does exactly what it says on the tin.

3) Electrically operated boot with automatic parcel shelf retract - Absolutely love this! I am in the boot at least twice a day, so think it is 'worth' the £500! Wouldn't be without this

4) Floor mats - Don't bother with the factory mats, they are only just better than the factory carpets and they are very poor quality, and at £55 pretty poor value, buy some proper quality mats. No sigs of wear after 10K yet - but they are still overpriced.

5) Heated washer nozzles - Great, not had them freeze up, this is also partially due to the correct solution of screenwash fitted at the factory.Nothing extra to add.

6) Heated windscreen - Despite my initial reservations about the 'wires' being too visible, I am REALLY glad i specced it!! Love this option, I have also found that on a cool morning when the car mists up a bit when I get in (due to showering beforehand) it clears the screen almost instantly.

7) Park Assist - Good toy, it WILL however curb your alloys, I used mine for the 2nd time at the weekend, whilst the car in front and behind were both parked 4 - 6" away from the curb, Park Assist put my Superb INTO the curb! - fortunately I am on 16" 55 profile winter tyres at the moment, so only the tyres touched the curb, this would not be so forgiving on the OE 40 profile tyres fitted to the OE 18"'s. The front parking sensors (the ones on the side) are well worth it though. Would still spec it - mainly for the front (and side) sensors, I now use it purely as an assistant whilst closely looking for the curb in the N/S mirror.

8) Spare wheel space saver - Wouldn't have a car without a spare wheel/tyre Nothing to add.

9) Sunset glass from B-pillar back - No it's not very dark, but it is a nice subtle shade, personally I hate 'limo tint' or 'drug dealer windows' as SWMBO calls it, so the sunset it just about right for me.Still looks nice.

10) Variable boot floor - If you are going to be carrying large items in the boot then this is a must have IMO, why build an estate with a 4-5" lip on the boot edge?? Not found a downside to it yet.

11) Wood decor - IMO adds a touch of class the interior, aluminium dash inserts are fine on a sports car, but I think they look out of place in the Superb. Really like the wood - adds a touch of class IMO and I stand by my previous comments about the silver trim.

12) Mudflaps - Fitted myself and despite their size they seem to do a pretty good job Very discreet but do the job

Was there anything I missed off that I wished I had ordered? don't think so :

DSG - Nope, drove one and was not overly impressed with it, it was not smooth enough engaging 1st and reverse and seemed hesitant pulling away at times, if it had been a free option then I may have considered it, but a £1,300 (IIRC) option for something that I can do equally as well if not better - no thanks, IF you do a lot of city driving then I can see some of the benefits.... but I don't.

MDI - The SD card and HDD is more than good enough for me Still stand by this, I have an 8GB SD card wilth over 100 CD's loaded onto it and it is still not full, the HDD has yet to be used

Panoramic sunroof - Not for me thanks. (that is when you can order one)

Rear side airbags - I rarely have anyone in the rear, so didn't bother with it.

Heated rear seats - Same reason as above.

Rear side window sunscreens - This is worth considering if you don't have the sunset glass, BUT make sure you get them factory fitted as the ones in the rear doors are on a roller that retract into the door panels

Towbar prep - Don't tow with the car so unnecessary.

3 spoke steering wheel - I actually like the 4 spoke one, so couldn't justify the extra £355 for the 3 spoke version. Now got a 3 spoke wheel fitted at much less than the price for the option.

Upgraded sound system - I find the std system more than good enough.

6CD changer - A pointless addition with the HDD and SD slot the Columbus comes with IMO.

KESSY - I have driven a couple of Passat's with their version of it and found it unnecessary.

Rear spoiler - I seriously considered this, but the OE tailgate has almost a spoiler built in as std, so didn't bother, I am not sorry I didn't order it TBH.

Bootliner - This is something I will be getting when I find a suitable one for transporting my wet SCUBA gear, I don't like the idea of the rigid plastic liner as I don't want everything sliding around in it, I also want a liner that will cover the two aluminium rails for the 'tether system' as salt water and aluminium do not together very well! I made my own liner out of a sheet of rubber I have since added the OE rubber liner on top of mine, so I have a rugged base for sliding heavy kit about on and the side protection I was looking for.

HTH you to make your mind up what option to choose.

Forgot to add that although ivory leather looks really nice on a dark coloured car (you need a contrast IMO, so dark paint = ivory, but light paint = black leather) make sure that you can live with it.

IF you wear a suit 90% of the time then it will look good in years to come, however jeans will really trash ivory, the demo that I test drove had less than 10K on the clocks and the ivory leather was filthy and looked very poor.

Personally (after having silver and cream leather interiors before in BMW's) ivory is a step to far for me, so it had to be black.

I would definitely go for the DSG - Only reason i didn't was cost (Paid close to 400.000 DKR equals ~47.000 GBP including danish taxes)

The trim levels are different but to a DK elegance I've added p-sensors front (back is included), heated rear seats (front is included) and sun shades in the rear doors. Other main standard in elegance are the xenon headlights and motorized seats (only driver side with memory) AND of course a towbar

Mine is a greenline and on "small" 16" - i've also included a set of wintertyres on the same type of rims (spectrum)

I've problems linking to the picture -> see here enstead http://majland.org/blog/?p=623

Don't think they look to small - but ofcourse big wheels always look good :-)

(They ford in the background are not ours)

Cheers for the feedback, completely forgot about the spare wheel, thought it just came standard, but I've never used mine in the octavia in 55k miles driving 'touch wood'. Found out that the parking assist comes as standard on Irish spec, along with rear heated seats. Sunset glass definitely sounds worth the money from the comments, along with a heated windscreen, especially if we get another bad winter, along with the heated nozzles. Didn't think of the variable boot floor, but sounds useful especially with me carrying alot in it. Not sure on the ivory interior now, seen as the jeans discolour the seats, and of course floor mats along with the other options I want.

I don't think I get gizmo and your logic about this? If you will have a lot in it, why not go for the most spacious option which is NOT having the variable floor?

And with the rised floor the shopping bag hooks on the sides got to little elevation for the bags to be sufficient supported.

I got the variable floor and thinking about getting it out because I want maximum capacity and not to mention height. For instance a baby buggy, much better fitted without the floor.

For me the four inch hided room under the floor is pretty useless, what would I put down there to be tossed around?

OK, I see the point with the direct loading without the edge.

We decided to not have it - cost and to maximize the space.

But i can understand that it can be almost necessary if you regularly have to lift heavy stuff into the trunk. It is very deep and you can easily lift heavy things all the way to the back seat.

So to protect the bumper i've bought the stainless steel protection from http://www.superskoda.com/Skoda/SUPERB-II/Superb-II-Combi-STAINLESS-STEEL--rear-bumper-protective-panel-KI-R

It is just fitted with two stribes of adhesive tape

This is the exact reason I specced it.

I carry a diving twinset in the car quite frequently which is 'kin heavy, lifting this over the lip is a PITA (as experienced on previous cars) I don't miss the 4" loss of height either.

The thing I noticed when playing with the demo at the dealers was that with the variable boot floor fitted it effectively flattened out the step between the seat backs when folded down and the boot floor. That was the main reason I specced it.

Does it really raise it 4 inches as mentioned earlier??

What do you get if you don't order the vari floor? My dealer never mentioned this was an option fitted to the showroom model, so I didn't spec it. A pic of a combi with out it would be great.

Hi

I wanted Rosso Brunello but my dealer has told me that it will not be available to order until the end of the year at the earliest.

Your option list is much the same as mine.

Good luck and I hope you do not have to wait as long as me (7 months)for yours.

Chris

you should be ok. we only waited 4 months. orderd 19/02/11 collected 25/6/11

I went for the Luxons as IMHO they look nicer than the Thermisto's, my spec as below

SKODA SUPERB ESTATE Elegance 2.0Tdi/CR/170/DSG

Black Magic Pearlescent

Mobile Device Interface

Heated Front Windscreen

Upgraded Sound System

Variable Boot Floor

Sunset Privacy Glass

18†“LUXON†wheels

Onyx Leather

Still no build date yet.

Although.... I am wondering if it's worth changing the colour change to white, removing the boot floor option and maybe adding something else instead like heated skooshers and flappy paddle steering wheel, any other suggestions? :giggle:

I was going to go with the black paint but with that and the sunset glass, plus the enormous size of the superb nearly 16ft long, I thought hearse, :giggle:

This is the exact reason I specced it.

Got your point, and like Woodfull emphasized with the rear seats down you get a big flat floor.

Anyhow, the floor is rather easy to take in and out if someone wonders and want all options available

Also as regrads the DSG box, I know its quicker than anything out there, but does it hurt fuel economy and isn't there a power limit of 258ft-lb's of torque or is that just a myth?

Edited by Bandit1988

Also as regrads the DSG box, I know its quicker than anything out there, but does it hurt fuel economy ...

No it does not hurt fuel economy as an old school automatic - it is just a normal gearbox with two clutches and a "robot" making the changes.

Just like the simpler/cheaper gearboxes (with only one clutch) found in the Lupo 3l or smart fortwo (the last being very slow in changing gears)
