"Off Road"?

Featured Replies

Hi all, got a new Roomster Scout for 24 hours while my Octy is being fettled.

I don't normally pay much attention to courtesy cars but I'll be doing about 120 miles in this one. Now I spotted an "off road" button and it got me intrigued! What exactly does it do?

Also if the scout is designed to be a bit more rough and tumble than the standard Roomster why have they fitted such low profile tyres?! It looks daft like one of those wag accessory Range Rover Sports :p

Embarassingly i now realise it was infact the traction control off button!

More embarassingly, I almost believed you

Totally agree with your description of the tyres, though

It is a few years since I drove a regular Roomster but I've got to say I was really impressed with the handling of the Scout. The front end just digs in and the back follows through nicely as well. Maybe the lower profile tyres (lower than my Octy vRS!) help with this somewhat.

In fact I was really impressed with the thing full stop. Practicality per pound these surely must be up there with the best.

This is why when my Furby dies I will be ordering a Roomster Scout 1.2TSI manual in Pacific blue..or in the Sahara beige......with heated seats, elec rear windows (current car has both and can't live without), tow bar and electrics, Maxidot, passenger airbag switch, third rear headrest, spare wheel...with a few mods to follow! B)

Great choice Fabdavrav, but please test-drive the Scout before you buy. I love mine, but I tire of the harsh and noisy ride on 16" wheels. For some reason, 15" wheels are not an option on the Scout. When I mentioned 15" wheels to my insurance company, their response was "ker-ching". For this reason alone, my next Roomy will be an SE.

Thanks......I have heard this mentioned before about the scout......My insurance company isn't to bad....but I'd just swap the tyres for a different softer make 16" and I'd have to get a set of 15" anyway as I would be using my current 15" alloys (which will go straight on) but with correct size winter tyres on as Roomster and Fabia MKII are slightly bigger RR) B)

Oh.....the main reason I don't like the SE is because of the pamoramic glass roof!!!! I've got stone chips on my metal roof like mad....plus it seams that some people are getting a bit hot with it!! :S

Some of us love the glass roof; some of us don't. I wouldn't want a Roomy without one :)

Are you able to recommend a different softer make 16" tyre, please?

Not yet.......there are usually plenty of car mags who run tyre tests tho' the year...look for one with low NVH....my current tyres are Toyo Proxes T1R and are very good tho' I'm only running 195/50 R15.....quite a few of the VRS Fabias are running 205...R16 and say they are good...some are also running 17" on the fabia....maybee post a question on the Fabia MKI section eg what tyre running 16" gives the lowest ammount of NVH?????? +1 I wouldn't be without mine. I can see that the cabin would be quite a dark place without all that glass B)

Some are also running 17" on the Roomster B) A comparison of 15" vs 17"

Tyres wise I run Toyo T-1R's on the Fabia 16's and Kumho Ecsta Sports 17's on the Roomster

And how do you find the 17" on the scout...considering people seam to think it's a bit harsh with 16"?????/

Not to bad to be honest, less harsh than the Fabia on 16's

Fabia + Lowered & Stiffened + 16's = Stiff Ride (ran 17's for a bit and it was too harsh)

Roomy + OEM Suspension + 17's = Not so stiff

SWMBO doesn't complain about the Roomy so it can't be that stiff.

I wonder what tyres Skoda are fitting as standard to the Roomster scout then, to make people think it's harsh????......just shows tho' what a tyre swap can do tho'....and you're running on bigger 17" as well!!! :o

Mine came with Dunlop Sport Maxx from the dealer. It was thier demo beforehand and came with 17" Scout alloys (not pictured) from the factory

I used to have a Mk1 Octavia (non-vRS) and the Roomster is a far better handler. Long wheelbase, short overhangs and a wide rear track seem to be a good combo!

Thank you for your advice. This is the exact information I need.
