fueling problem?

Featured Replies

Hi all, i have a 51 plate octavia 1.9 tdi auto.

Whilst travelling at a steady 40 or 50 mph the engine surges , the rev clock moves prob 200 revs then drops back to normal, strange sensation, just feels like i am moving the throttle pedal, only seems to do it in 3rd or top gear.

Anybody any ideas? Cheers.

Try having the auto trans fluid changed by a garage if it's over 50k miles old. (if you've smelt old ATF or gear oil you'll know why this is a garage job)

Hopefully fresh oil will help, but it's likely you've got worn clutch packs in that transmission.

Transmission rebuilds aren't all that complicated (once you've got the damned thing out, that is! :giggle: ), but some people do charge a fair bit of money for it.

Get the oil change first though, and see what gives...

I agree that worn clutch packs are possible, but I've seen a trans manage 100k miles after a problem like this with just 2 oil changes (the one that fixed it, and another 50k miles later). I got the basic idea from ZF Transmissions who recomend changing ATF every 50K,

Will report if it cured the problem.

Cheers.
