DIY Towbar Install

Featured Replies

Have just completed the installation of the Skoda Detachable Tow bar SEEA630001A and single electrics SEEA630002EA.

Cost of parts £347.90 and the job took about 5 hours.

The car was delivered with Tow Bar Prep so it was just a case of plugging in the wiring in the position shown in photo and of course the removable cover in the bumper was also pre installed.

Interestingly the install instructions state that it is necessary to replace parts of the cooling system which is also part of Tow Bar Pep.

Also contrary to information in the Skoda literature the weight limit for the tow bar is not 1800KG but 2000KG (The full towing limit of the 140CR and 170CR)

Removal of the rear bumper and internal panels was reasonably straight forward and I have compiled a PDF document showing which panels need removal.

Hope this might prove useful to anyone considering DIY - it is certainly cheaper than the £680.00 I was quoted by my local dealer emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Nice effort. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing this as I would like to do this when mine arrives. Did you get any more pics of the pre installed wiring and the blocks you connected?

What are you doing about coding?

HI Mark

Sorry no more pics but the wiring is very simple, the kit comes with a control box that fixes to 2 pre drilled holes and this has 2 sockets. One takes the loom that is supplied with the kit and the other takes the plug that is on the car wiring loom.

Unfortunately the coding is not included with the Tow Bar Prep emoticon-0101-sadsmile.gif You would have thought that it could have been for £170.00.

I have yet to investigate who I will get to do this.

Thanks for this info, very useful; confirmed that the control box is not part of the tow prep

Word of caution for those with an early production CR 140 (CBDB engine code up to WK45/09) the tow limit is 1600KG :S

Regards,

TP

Did you purchase the towbar kit and electrics from Skoda?
