Are these any good/safe?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, just wondered if anyone had any experience or views on these devices:

Ring multi socket 12v adaptor

Our biggest issue, whilst on holidays, last year with the car was the lack or 12v sockets within the cabin area. (why don't manufacturers put one in the rear passenger compartment for the kids electronic play things?!) So I had a look for a solution before we head off this year. We need at least three 12v connections within the cabin area, four would be ideal. (none used as an actual cigarette lighter I may add). :giggle:

My only reservation Is that, if the socket is designed for a single 12v output; is it really capable (and safe) drawing the required power for three or four 12v devices? I really don't want to start having fuses blow (or worse) when on holiday!

Any advice would be great fully received as always. :)

Yes, I use one and no problems, providing you are using it to charge /power things like GPS - Phone - DS etc.

Don't try powering a cool box and a mini kettle at the same time though or the internal fuse in Muti Socket will blow.

That's great, thank you. For some reason I just felt it was really cheap for something that worked properly! Then again most 'Ring' stuff I've had has been good quality. Re charging demands - it'll be a ds, a phone charger and a couple of portable DVD players at worst.

Used one for last two years , no problems at all.

Thanks

Now ordered. :-)

Had a three-way adapter in my last car and now mounted in the Yeti. I got one which can be switched on/off from a button and fused.

Never had a problem, I use it to power sat nav, iphone and occasionally a laptop. I think I got it from Halfords.

Just don't go crazy with what you plug into it.

I've got a four socket one that lives in the passenger seat drawer - and have used it for near four years now with no problems. Comes out when travelling proper to power sat nav and two iPhones. It used to power the fridge in the boot too but thankfully the Yeti has a dedicated socket for that now in the boot!

Thanks again for the further input guys.:)

I have run a socket extension from the rear outlet to the rear seats for DVD players. It tucks neatly between the seat cushions an is safe as well as being out of the way.

Although I have used a 3 way adapter for some years with no problems, I now use a couple of twin Usb chargers for a portable DVD player, Portable 2.5" HD ( containing my daughters movies and TV recordings ), a mobile phone and a TomTom GPS which I plug into the 3 way adapter. I then use the usb cables to connect the devices (They are a lot less bulkier than 12v cigar lighter type plugs). Following a link supplied in annother topic I purchased a dual port USB charger for the amazing price of £1.82! delivered from Hong Kong. The main thing to be aware of is that one port supplies 5v Dc @ 1.0A and the second port a much more powerfull 5v Dc 2.0A for iPads etc. Delivery took about 8 days, the unit is really small and unobtrusive and functions faultlessly. Just for info, Halfords (not online) do a charger with 2 regular sockets & 2 usb charge sockets which with more devices charging via usb is useful. Good thing is it's designed to sit neatly in a cup holder. I think the Yeti is similar to Octavia with these by the handbrake? When not in use it sits in the door pocket cupholder.

Fred

That looks nifty.

I might invest in one soon, you never know when they might come in handy.............................JUST like my 750w power inverter, for use with my angle grinder.

(GREAT for removing wheelclamps emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif)

(I also have rigger gloves, goggles & a sweatshirt to protect my arms from flying sparks...........

The ARC welding kit is kept on the back seat emoticon-0140-rofl.gif ((Joke)
