General upkeep?

Featured Replies

As ya know lads my octy is my first vag and she has just crept up to 65k miles. Iv got water pump, t/belt and all necessary bits done. Need to get it serviced soon so wondering at this mileage what would other people recommend getting done to her as I still know very little about them but wanna make sure to keep her at her best. And running healthy

Sounds like you're keeping up with the usual things fine mate.

Just keep it properly serviced with genuine parts and a good full synth oil, i see its a VRS in your car info? I use a good 5w30 Oil in my VRS and is best for it in my eyes. Sure other people may have other advice but thats mine!

I'll be leaving it to main dealer for service so will be all genuine parts used. Should I change anything else,

It might be worth changing the oil pickup if you don't know the history, or it has been run on variable servicing. They can block up and cause engine problems. Apart from that, I can't think of anything else you NEED to do.

The car has a full main dealer history so should I do this.

Judging by other threads it's not a serviceable part and a few have had problems with them so just for peace of mind I'd get it changed rather than risk running into unwanted trouble in the future

Changed my oil pick up the otherday and it was rather clogged!!! 146k on the clock. Do it as soon as.

Iv replaced the air filter with an itg drop in filter so I'm happy with that. May get the gear oil done ye. And I would of taught with a main dealer history that the coils would of been done. Must look through the paperwork later on

Tne coilpack recall only came out in March, so it might not have been done yet. If you ring them and tell them the chassis number, they will tell you if it needs doing or not.

Oh great I will do that thanks for the info

out of interest, is the gear oil on the official Skoda "to do" list as a service item?

If so, at what mileage?

Nope, not an official item, but I'm gonna change mine at 60k.

I've just reached 59k and plan to do the gearbox oil at 60k

thanks, mine's on 56600, so I'll go with the flow & do mine at about 60k too :-)

Check your wishbone bushes my cars done 61k and the bushed are fubar.

That as well. Mine went at 40k, 8 years old, along with the ARB bushes and droplinks.

I've never had the gearbox oil changed - 7 years and 105k km

Better get that done then :)

  • 1 month later...

I rang my dealers to ask about how much they'd charge me to change the gearbox oil, they didn't have it on the list of jobs offered!

So I said I'd ring back later to see what price they could come up with.(not done so yet)

If I do it myself, what spec oil do I need & how much?

The last thing I want is me (or Skoda) getting the oil grade wrong.

The car is a 1.8t Elegance, '52 reg

thanks :-)

I rang back, they want about £96, so I'll do it myself....how hard can it be! I've done it several times on other cars,I'd assume it's keep the car level, drain old oil, refit drain plug, then refill throughy filler hole until it starts to trickle out of filling hole.

But still need the correct grade oil!

Gearbox code is EVS
