VMR V710's - FITTED!

Featured Replies

Still inconvenient, and who's to say it won't happen again? If it was me, I would demand a refund and take them somewhere that will do a better job

I thought the same to be honest Harry. If it takes them this many attempts then maybe they're the wrong place for the job?

P.S. Have we gone slightly off-topic? ;)

Thats pretty shabby Harry, hope you get them fixed properly this time.

Phoned my insurer, eSure, earlier today to add on my wheels, they said it would cost me an extra £66.68 up until renewal (due in late October) which I thought was pretty expensive but hey ho. They also said because of the number of modifications (tinted windows, coilovers, remap and now the wheels) they were increasing my excess to £400 - so i'd better be extra careful now I don't smash it!

I should have asked them if I need to call them again once I swap back to my standard 'winter' wheels. I suppose I should, so that there aren't any difficulties if there is an incident over the winter.

Kenny - seen your post about my location - for obvious reasons I won't post my town up on the forum but i'll PM you with where I live.

Thanks to all the others for commenting (good and bad) - I didn't expect everyone to love them, the world would be a boring place if we were all the same and I like them and thats the main thing. Once the front end has been dropped slightly I think i'll be a bit happier with them.

My insurer also told me they wouldn't continue to insure me if I make any more modifications so I shall need to either consider my car 'finished' or factor in changing my insurer if I plan any future modifications.

The only slight downside with the new wheels is a VERY slight noise, like a drone that wasn't there before - hopefully this is just because the tyres are brand new and will disappear once I have a few miles on them, but it's so slight anyway I don't think it would bother me if it stayed. The tread blocks on the tyres are quite large compared to my previous 18" continentals and I have already had to prize a stone from my driveway out of the new tyres so perhaps the drone is something else caught in the tread.

I thought rob_e would have been all over this thread, I assumed he was waiting for me being the 'guinea pig' before he ordered a set!

These are spot on not many i like on vrs but these i do

hmmm i quite like them actually, obviously fronts stick out a bit, the drone you could be right about the new tires etc, the Uniroyals i got pick up everything i have to check weekly for small children :giggle:

I'm sure Rob will comment when he sees the thread :)

You need to change insurers! That is all emoticon-0148-yes.gif

+1, try Adrian Flux mate.

Nice one. Rear looks great (still think with 235s it'll rub on the bumper rails at the back of the arch though when you're loaded up). Front wheel fitment is fine, it just needs to be lower and 225s to get it to resolve fully with the arch.

Oh, don't forget to take the top arch liner screw out and tuck the arch liner in above the screw hole thing to avoid rubbing when you lower it some more at the front. B)

Not being funny but if you ordered and paid for the 225 tyres, isn't that what you should have been sent? I'd be annoyed about that personally, not least because you'll most likely have paid a premium (£30 a corner?) for the 225s over the 235s.

Ah. Hadn't thought of that Nick. Good point, I shall need to investigate!

Hmmm. On the elitedirect website the a 225/35 19 Vredestein Sessanta (that what I asked for and what I was quoted for) is £174. A 235/35 19 Vredestein Sessanta is £150, so thats £24 difference per tyre, £96 for a set of 4.

I need to be sending the company who supplied my wheels and tyres a wee email asking for a refund!

Yep, certainly not an insignificant amount.

Hello. :wonder:

Just back after two weeks away without t'interweb. Wheels look spot on oobster- agree ride height could be a little lower, but that is a damn fine looking wheel.

Also iagree with nick, if you ordered 225's the surely thats what they should have shipped? Or at the very least they should have been upfront with you and only billed for the cheaper tyre?

Harry did you ever work out what you rim size and offset is? Love the colour against the silver (shame its falling off  ) but I think your car would be just perfect with a spoiler-less rear end. Justmy 02p

:)

I think they are ET42 and 8.5" wide Rob.

It looks wierd without a spoiler on, that pic was just a test fit as the spoiler is still unpainted. I think I'm going with the WRC spoiler, it might not be to everyone's taste, but it looks wicked in the flesh :)

Nice wheels , love the stance. As regards going lower , if you can without falling foul of the usual poor uk roads and speed humps. Go for it. Would love to lower mine and go for 19" but living and mainly driving in London i would need new tyres and wheels every few months. It's good to see that they are people willing to change from the standard rims. To me wheels can make or break how car looks. With the weight of the wheels once they are not mega heavy cheap wheels .. a kilo or so does not make that much of a difference unless you are doing lots of track days. Some cars are very sensitive to wheel weights. Don't know about the VRs , i have had mine only a few months and still deciding what wheels etc etc.

They look really good mate but that's scary money for a set of wheels! BTW, would you be the same oobster that was a member of sidc with a red blobeye scooby?

I am indeed James! Sold the scooby about 3 years ago, went to someone from up near Stornoway.

I kinda agree, I like my wheels, they are smart - they aren't nearly £1700 smart though. However, they're bought now so hey ho.

Currently 'in discussion' with the supplier regarding some cash back due to the different-sized tyres.

The drone noise has gone too, must just have been because the tyres were new.

I couldn't justify spending that sort of money on wheels. They're nice but I just think the standard wheels are better suited to the vrs. If anything I'd have mine sprayed a darker colour.

Dont mean to undermine your wheel choice Oobster, but you know you can get pretty much the same wheels for a lot less right? A grand less in this case!

My link

I know, I know, they're reps right? But personally I couldn't justify mega money for single piece wheels.

Either way, they're smart, and I love the look of the real mccoy on your motor B)

Aye I spotted some copies on eBay, could only find Silver though and I wanted Gunmetal. I know I could have bought the silver copies and had them sprayed but I thought "hell, if I am doing it I might as well do it right!".

Hey Andy,

I like them, although for my liking (only my personal preference) i'd have the rears spaced out slightly further, but you've already said that yourself.

When are you coming to a meet ? :)

When everyone else comes to one

  • 1 month later...

hey from Oz gents, I'm just trying to figure out if these wheels (19x8.5, 45 offset) will fit my new MY12 RS wagon, any guidance you could provide would be very much appreciated : )

Thanks in advance.

Can't see why not Todd - my wheels are 8.5" x 19", ET45 and they fit fine with no rubbing on my hatchback VRS thats lowered around 35mm on coilovers.

Those wheels are smart! Remember to post a pic or two up if/when you get them fitted :D
