THINKING ABOUT BUYING A FABIA GREENLINE 2

Featured Replies

The dealer can let me test drive a 1.4 Greenline - not the new version so I hope it will be pretty similar. I would feel bad for taunting the bluemotion crowd though.....

I have a GL1. IMHO its unlikely the two will be similar. The engines are very different especially the way you use the gearbox. Took me a while to get the hang of it as you need to forget anything you learnt about how to drive a car as far as gear selection goes.

Below 40 it likes 3rd. below 60 it likes fourth ;)

Fuel economy is the same as people are listing for the GL2. The GL1 engine is a little more 'agricultural'

If anyone is thinking about a gl2, and lives near Ayrshire in Scotland, feel free to come and have a look at mine. I'll take you for a run and you can see the mpg etc

Thanks for that - why did they make the spare a different size to the regular wheels. It makes no sense unless it's a spacesaver

Because it's the same spare supplied for any model or spec Fabia. But the Gl2 has narrower tyres than all the others.

Likewise for Essex.

A couple of you mentioned that whilst it would do 70mph it felt better at 55mph or so... Has any one done a decent run at over 70 (say around the 80 mark)? Every year i do considerable mileage on the Continental motorways and like to do 80/85mph, if it would struggle or just not "like it" at those sorts of speeds then I'll have to go back to looking at the 1.6...

It's absolutely fine at higher speeds, just the mpg will suffer, I find. The mpg seems to be better at 55-60mph. I tested this out recently on a trip from Glasgow to Manchester then straight back. Went at 60mph(74mpg) returned at 70ish mph(65mpg). These figures are from the trip computer mind.

That's ok! What about "fully loaded" (with passengers/luggage!!) - whats it like on motorway hills? Any gear changes required or can it keep at 70 in 5th?

(Sorry to be a pest, but it seems i may struggle to get a test drive... Seems Skoda don't want to (or can't) tell me where the nearest Greenline is, so I'm info gathering!)

Almost everyday sat at 80mph on cruise, not a problem only on long steep hills will the car dip to 75-80mph. Had 2 passengers and luggage and makes little difference, always carting 'stuff' around, makes no difference.

The differences I think maybe in engine, road and wind noise, because of it's lightweight body and lack of soundproofing there is more noise intrusion than other vehicles, you get what you pay for in this respect and can be a subjective thing. I've taken to wearing earplugs occaisionally when sitting at high speed, ironically I have to reduce the radio volume for speech when I do this as the earplugs filter the low frequencies leaving radio speech to come through clearer.

I should point out that I also ride a motorbike so I'm used to wearing earplugs and I have a partner that snores, so it's pretty normal to me!

I've always found mine quiet at speed, although I generally don't go over 70mph.

Mine doesn't want to do much over that without making a fuss.
