How to remove Swing radio system

Hello guys,

I am new here. Just recently owned a Superb with the standard Swing radio system (which by the way is ok but can only store up to 12 stations (!!!) when much cheaper systems stores at least 18...) and now I am looking at buying the Columbus system. I would like to install it myself so as to save the extra cost. The only problem is that I can't find anywhere on internet a manual on how to extract various parts of the car (including stereo system).

Any help or "how to" guide would be much appreciated.

Hi, I have the Fabia with the same radio, so I assume the removal is the same.

Around the radio should be a black trim. This trim removes quite easily by pulling it off by getting your fingernail underneath it.

Once you have removed the trim, the radio is held in place by 4 Torx/Star screws. I have never took the radio out, but I assume that this is all that holds it in.

The hard part is normally getting the surround off, theses cars are know as been well bulit for nothing, you have to use quite a lot of force to pull it off.

they should all be much of a muchness, on the Superb, using a trim removal tool or similar (I use an old Brodit trim separator, which is a thin plastic wedge)

On the Superb, go to the top left or top right, about 1" below the top corner and pop in your wedge / tool / whatever and lever the facia plate outwards, if it's never been removed it will be very stiff. The bottom clips can then be done by sliding the ashtray cover back and feeling for the join between the stereo facia and the climate panel, and then just pull forward until it clips out.

There are then 4 torx screws that hold the head unit in place, best if you have a magnetic torx driver for this as if one drops in the back it will be a bugger to get out.

refitting ..... just line it up and push the bottom in first and snap the top clips in

I'am about to do the same thing but I have no faith whatsoever in my local service technicians. (They admitted never doing it before).

Anybody have idea where to place GPS antenna and some link to coding procedure?

what i would suggest, if fitting a Columbus, is signing up to the vwnavi forums, there is a fantastic Columbus / rns510 section there that covers just about everything.

I can't help with the antenna because i swapped amundsen to Columbus so have the roof mounted antenna.

On my Octy 2 i mounted it to the metal cross member that runs under the dash, using just the magnet and it stayed put under the dash for 2 years and performed perfectly.

Searching for information on how to remove the Swing Radio from my Superb 2 I cam across this thread and found it a bit confusing so I thought I'd clarify the removal method of you have the Swing radio fitted to a Superb 2.

 

The bezel you need to remove is part of the radio, it's the gloss black part that goes around the display and controls. It is not the outer bezel as found on some other models, no amount of prying is going to get an outer bezel off as it's part of the radio, you'll just damage the radio or dash and still not be able to remove the radio.

 

Here's a photo of what the radio looks like with the bezel removed giving access to the 4 tox screws you need to remove.
