Power dies when abs light flashes, HELP!

Featured Replies

Hi only recently this problem has started to happen. Its only every now and then but when I accelerate the abs light flashes then there is no power until I let of the accelerator and then press it down again. My dad suggested that it could be the brake pads needed replacing because they have censers on them apparently? which does make sense because the brakes haven't been as good recently and they keep doing that thing where it kicks back at you. Help would be much appreciated :)

Sounds like you need to get it onto someone's laptop with VCDS and see what fault codes there are. I think there's a separate light for brake pad wear, and I would expect it to either be lit all the time, or just when you're braking (not accelerating). I reckon it sounds like one of the ABS speed sensors has developed a fault which both the ABS and traction control rely on to detect locked or spinning wheels, your symptoms sound like the traction control is cutting power thinking your wheels are spinning and also you say your ABS is engaging and you can feel the pedal kicking.

Haha, i was hoping i didn't need to do this because im guessing its quite expensive? and yes when i am braking the pedal kicks back and the abs light flashes again :(

Well, if you can find a member to do it for you then it'll be somewhere between "free" and "a couple of beers". I'd do it for you if you weren't so far away. If you end up taking it to a dealer then rule of thumb used to be "an hours labour" just for plugging it into a computer for about 90 seconds and doing a fault scan, so I'd have a look in the diagnostics section on here first and see if you can find someone local.

Obviously that's nothing to do with the price of the actual fix, but if you go to Skoda/VW then you're down probably £50+ before you've even started on the repairs...

Your wheels are not spinning are they?! It will flash and cut power then!

It will be the ASR light flashing and not the ABS. ABS only flashes under heavy braking not acceleration. Easy fix, stop ragging it, or get better tyres. Also read the manual, and learn what each of the warning lights actually means.
