Who else has drilled disc's?

Featured Replies

I have the mtec ones from eBay front and back and noticed today only one tiny crack starting on one of the front discs next to a hole, all other discs were fine.

They've been on for 2 years now and approx 35/40k so they have been excellent, I'd deffo buy them again

Sorry if this thread is inappropriate like all the rest of my life is...

You may want to check with the Mod's that its ok to have a sense of humour before logging into Briskoda.Net. Some say it provokes laughing out loud whilst driving on a public road. Now that's dangerous as we all know.

I know how you feel Ross, but digging the mods out is not the best way to go about it in my opinion.

Confrontation leads to you getting fed up of this forum. And that would be a shame to see as I personally enjoy your posts and like the car very much.

Just keep the possibly dodgy stuff for links, not direct posts.

Grooved EBC discs here and all good. Brembo size though, if it matters. I would avoid drilled for all the reasons above. The ones which one can usually afford will not be the best quality. Must try and find some carbon brakes in the future :D

Oh and this:-

Are you getting bored yet? Or want me to report your sig for not being in control of your car on a public road. (That was a joke btw)

- On a serious note... Please just drop this now and move on you are better than this and we all enjoy what you post. There are numerous people on here that have had items removed by a mod... I'm even one of those people. Time to move on

The discovery 3 has drilled disks, it's a hell of a car to stop so I doubt there's going to be to much wrong with them!

My Range Rover didn't. Brembo as standard on the V8 and that's faster than the D3 or 4.

Never seen drilled discs on any Land Rover from the factory, but you can get them as aftermarket options.

I must admit , when I worked for the tuning companies , we never advised for drilled discs

Dimpled as has been said , or grooved is the way to go

We used to sell some dimpled and grooved discs that was real value for money......no issues with them either

Check out that link

We sold loads and no issues with them , decent prices too

Hope that will help some of you

oh and "X" to you guys that need it :D

There's nothing specifically "wrong" with cross-drilling (and/or grooving) a basic ventilated cast rotor, provided that the machining patterns are properly tailored to the pattern of the spokes that join the 2 disc plates together, and that the machining is done before the disc is heat-treated. You'll probably need to anneal the discs to remove any stress raisers and then temper them.

See Post #1 for an example of what happens if you don't do this right!

Oh yeah and Sarah,

The Merc discs are zinnerman iirc http://www.otto-zimmermann.de/index.php5?Itemid=123

I had a set on my car and they never cracked, mind mine doesn't get used in anger much they were a little noisey at low speed though, they ain't anything special though eg ceramic etc.

HTH

No they come as standard may be an optional extra on the disco 3 but seen a good few around and my boss dosent spend money on anything that he dosent have to!

I don't want to be offensive or argumenative, but please trust me that no mass produced Land Rover product has ever come with drilled discs from the factory. They just don't do it, they also don't do braking "options".

Aftermarket.. Yes.

If you think they do, try to find somebody selling genuine Land Rover drilled discs with a LR part number (that is not a copy of a standard one, so you know it fits) on the internet or ask the local dealer: http://www.brookwell.co.uk/products/discovery-parts/discovery-3-parts-05-09/discovery-3-brake-parts

Sorry, but I am a long serving Land Rover nut that has had most models, know the dealers well and my ex worked in the parts department there.

God knows I have no idea about landrover just seen my bosses with them since new? Seen a few others in me campsite as well that's all, he must of got them put on straight away then.

Yeah just spoke to my boss he has said the disks were original! Again I have no clue only going by what I'm being told.

Overfinch seem to use these if its been tweaked by someone? http://www.rangerovers.net/custom/overfinch/performance.html

Other than that looks to be EBC or Britpart (http://www.paddockspares.com/parts-and-accessories/discovery-3/brakes/front-axle.html) which are commonly used on LR's depending on who services them instead of genuine parts...

All serviced by riders (landrover dealer down ere) and he defo hasn't had it tunned, god knows what he's brought!

OMG this thread needs a lethal injection.

Oh wait..........
