delayed delivery on yeti. dealer now giving us £1000 less on trade in.

When I ordered my car in December 2009 the garage in Cardiff I bought it from told me they would honour the PX price even though they knew it would be about 4 months wait. To be fair they agreed this knowing that I was doing about 1000 miles a month at least in the car.

My dealer did this too.

The deal we agreed on was with a guess at what the trade-in would be worth when the Octavia arrived.

He stated that that figure would be the minimum we would recieve and that it would be reviewed when the Octavia had been built.

It meant we got a pessimistic trade-in figure when we agreed the numbers but we knew that was a worst case scenario.

I had always planned to sell privately anyway and that's what I did in the end so it was all academic anyway but still....

To the original poster- I see you are in Edinburgh- what dealer are you using? I used Chathams in Dunfermline and have nothing but praise for them- it seems Chathams in Edinburgh are no-where near as good. And if it's Arnold Clark you're using then I'm not surprised!

To be honest, the dealer knows he can sell that Yeti on in a heartbeat so you have zero gravity behind your threats of walking away from the deal- he will be quite happy for you to do that. :(

Quick note chaps during my purchase of Yeti from a Skoda dealer, I was offered £500 at trade in for my 2003 Vauxhall Astra 1.8 SXI - 34K on the clock (bit tatty paintwise but otherwise solid), quick check of "Webuyanycar.com" was £1300. (I know we'd have been drilled down from that figure once they "inspected" car) So Gumtree ad placed, o/a £1350, sold for £1275. I'd never counter trading in a car again. Anyway for info chaps.

Dealer should have put in writing how your trade in would fall in value with regard to any delay in delivery of your new car, then you could have either accepted the deal or not. It's his fault and he should be the one taking the hit - not you. He obviously knows if you walk away he won't have a problem selling to someone else but I wouldn't make it easy for the dealer by just walking away - I'd push it as far as I could first.

The Part Ex I got for mine was actually about book and was competitive with the quote I had from We Buy Anycar.

White Dove? I had a cheeky phone call off them telling me they wanted to revalue the car, I told them I've already agreed a price and if they built my car quicker they would of had my p/x one by now... Safe to say the manager went away with his tail between his legs because I wasnt budging at all.
