PC analysis! Odd graphics!

Featured Replies

A tower I just got has a very odd graphics card in it (or I think its graphics....) Any enlightenment as this doesn't appear to be the usual blue 3 row connector thing that most monitors have....

Also, any idea on what chipset it might have too? The model number is Gigabyte GA-8I915PM which I gather to be an intel pentium 915 mobo. Beyond that - clueless. :D Would like to get it running but think for starters I need a graphics card or find out WTF is in there at the moment....

Sorry for poor pics. Main camera died so resorted to the Xperia X10 and its dodgy "light" :D

That's a DVI connector, sort of the successor to D-sub (normal blue connector).

Some monitors have those connections or you can get DVI to D-sub convertors cheap.

Presumably the mobo doesn't have integrated graphics.

if your on about the white port coming from the card then that is a DVI port its better than the normal blue VGA port (no one uses VGA now).

And looking at the card its a old basic ati graphics card carnt tell what model it is.

And the chipset should say on it unless it has a small heat sink on it unless you mean prccessor then its a Intel Pentium 4 LGA775 socket.

Hope that helps

I wouldn't say no one uses d-sub now, I've had three laptops and external monitors at work this year that still use it.

Wow they was ment to stop using them ATi and nvidia or is just in the Gaming Area which i am from mite still be using them in offices i gess

Well, removed the fan/heatsink and taken out the chip and there is no markings on it sadly

There is "A2170" and "35548147" on it in really small letters. Its possible it is a 3ghz Pentium 4, but I am not sure sadly.

The fan is unbranded which could have helped.

Cheers for the graphics thing too. The card is a Radeon ATI thing, but nothing to really identify that accurately either. My main PC I am on now still uses the "normal" blue connector. Thats why the connector on this thing surprised me. Means I couldn't have a trial firing up using my screen etc due to it being "normal" :D

This is before I bolted the fan back in

Yep thats a LGA775 Sockets is will most likely to be the Pentium 4 carnt comment on the clocking speed could be 2.6 to 3ghz. Looks like a coolermaster heatsink other than that am out of ideas.

(P.S you got any bonnet lifters yet)

Thanks for the help, and nope, not yet. Difficulty getting the metal templates. :(

If you're unsure about the model, this might help

Get yourself a DVI adapter so you can use your monitor then you should be able to find all the info you need in device manager.

I think I have loads of them laying around the house somewhere!
