NO central locking :(

Featured Replies

Hello all I'm new to this so hi :)!

I have literally brought a Skoda Fabia today and I LOVE it, the only problem the model I have doesn't have central locking

Do you know anywhere I can get this installed and rough estimate of cost?

Thanks everyone :D

Would have thought any auto electrician would be able to sort you out.

Or if you feel upto a bit of DIY, there are loads of kits available to retrofit central locking available from eBay etc

Skoda dealers sell a kit specially for the Fabia but it's costly at approx £130. As it's tailor made for the Fabia it saves drilling holes and bending bits of metal for ages until you get it to fit and work properly. Having said that one of the actuators on mine failed to work properly until I put some washers under the bolt to space it out.

I tried to put a guide/overview of the process here http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/169820-fabia-central-locking-retrofit-part-deux/ the pics might give you some inspiration on how you might fit one of the generic £30-40 kits.

Aw brilliant!, I will ring up a Skoda dealer tomorrow, because I'm not too good with fixing the car, think ill ask if they'll fit it for me too, I don't think £130 is too bad was expecting a lot more! Thanks again :)

£130 is parts only. As for fitting price, that could be more than £130 at a Skoda dealers. If it's something they have practice at it might take them 2 hours if they're hard workers, not sure what dealer hourly rates are now, maybe £60-70? A quote costs you nothing though so worth getting a price from Skoda and from a few automotive electricians/car alarm fitters.

If you get it done at a car alarm installers they could also install a basic alarm which will give you remote central locking. Installing central locking is something most alarm installers do, particularly as some Jap models have no motor in the driver's door so need a motor adding to be fully remote central locking. Most "garages" will baulk at the prospect of installing Central Locking though.

There's a few options to explore anyway.

Hi anewman, I noticed that you live where I do! Risca?

Do you know the best place to go to get a quote?

I have looked online but only bringing up stuff like Griffin Mill and Skoda Newport?

Thanks again :)

I think those are the only two closest. I usually buy any parts from Capitol Skoda in Newport, Leeway Industrial Estate. Never had any work done there though so can't vouch for that. http://www.capitolskoda.co.uk/ Reviews here seem largely positive though http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/34804-capitol-skoda-newport/ I remember reading some unflattering ones about Griffin Mill.

I don't know if it's something NG Motors in Cardiff would be able to do http://www.ngmotorscardiff.co.uk/ lots of good reviews on forums. They're an independent VAG specialist. Had a wheel bearing done there and seemed very good.

Have no experience of alarm installers/automotive electricians as had reasonable success at DIY.
