Wheel Nuts

Featured Replies

Hi All

Not having a good week so far - Fridge freezer packed up , new glasses (Varifocal and expensive)aren't right and to cap it all a puncture today caused by a small screw. Oh well that's 3 things I suppose...

Can anyone tell me please where the tool is hidden to take the plastic caps off the wheel nuts? The manual suggests there is a plastic extractor in the spare wheel well but it's not on mine.I have managed to get them off by cunningly using a zip strap and piece of string but wouldn't fancy trying this on a busy road late at night.

Fortunately I have the "Full sized spare" but I'm now restricted to 50mph until the fitters open.

Any help would be welcome

It should be in a slot in the black foam piece in the right hand side of the spare wheel compartment - a bit like a pair of tweezers.

Try the spare wheel guide;

You can see the puller just sticking out of the polystyrene box at the top of the photo below.

Since when have they been coming with FULL SIZED Spare wheels?

Or is the OP thinking it is full sized because it isn't a skinny wheel?

Hi all

Thanks for the prompt response - Saturday evening TV is poor again isn't it!

My toolkit is in a different format to TP's - guess due to the "Full Size spare."

I've just been to the garage to look again and I can see an empty rectangular slot in the polystyrene, it looks like a call to the dealer is necessary as we're off to France with it very shortly

Thanks again ...Garth

Crikey TP that must be one hell of an archive you have. That's the one but it's just an empty slot in mine- will speak to Simpsons service Monday morning

Hi Garth,

if you need it the part number is 8D0 012 244 A but they should have some kicking about the place the dealers usually do.

Thanks TP, a mine of information as usual.I'm off to try and get the tyre fixed now and will speak to dealer tomorrow

Regards...Ggarth

When every I have had a tyre change on the Yeti (x2) the fitter just used a large pair of pliers to pull them off...seemed to do as good a job as the easily lost 'tweezers'.

Better to use the tweezers though, to avoid scratching the alloy wheel.

Incidentally, good practice dept: wrap insulation tape, or tank tape just once around the socket of your wheel nut wrench to stop the steel coming into contact with the wheel nut recess of the wheel. Otherwise, if you scratch the recess, over a couple of winters the alloy will start to corrode & the corrosion "spiders" will come out onto the face of the wheel.

Better still is to put some heatshrink on the socket.

The last lot I bought was from eBay, there was loads available, the one I went for was 25.4mm Ø and cost 99p (inc P&P) for a piece 50cm long :)
