Colour Coded Bumpers

Featured Replies

Has anyone had their Front & Rear bumpers & side sills painted to match the rest of the car?

Most interested if you have had this done and the Yeti is Black?

Or has anyone used Photoshop to see what it looks like?

Considering this but would like to know in advance what it looks like.

I have been through the process of what it will take to prepare and paint these plastics.

The main thing is It can be done with the same smooth paint finish as the rest of the body.

Any help appreciated.

France? (I think)

France? (I think)

If your cars white next time you're in France, bring it round, I have a spare can of Brilliant White and some red lead - take a couple of hours I think

Ferry is already booked for the 16th of August!

see you about the 18th then, - i'll have to sort the distemper brush - 150mm should be fine!!

I had this idea months ago, but since im 50/50 with changing for a combi or RS i put the plans on hold.

It would indeed look very nice and more 'up market'.

I would bet £50 that Skoda will introduce a facelift model with colour coded bumpers ;)

You need to do a fair bit of work to the rear bumper to paint it. It is of a textured finish that can be painted yes, but it will look different to the rest of the car due to the dimples making shadows. So you have to have it sanded and smoothed first somehow adding to the cost. That is what Allams and Marlborough both said to me when I had wanted it done before delivery...

The Yeti is a car shouting out for this type of special edition. It's a fun car that should have a version that is colour coded to the nth degree.

Personally I prefer the 'black plastic cladding' look on the Yeti and similar cars. But each to their own B)

That White Yeti looks brilliant, two tone painted wheels are my kinda thing.

Did they give you a estimate on cost? I have had a quote from a local body shop who did some work on my wife’s car (tested their skills first).

I am happy with it but wanted to compare.

I also wanted the tech diagrams for dismantling the front/rear & side panels to see what was involved. Any ideas on where I can get these?

Since I am getting a refund from my dealer for the side skirts I thought I would re-distribute the funds towards this instead.

I can't remember exact figures no, but it was in the region of £350 to £400 if memory serves. BUT that was for painting the bumper AS IS. That did not include for smoothing it.

What about using filler/undercoat base smoothed over?

You'll not get the desired effect so easily and it'll probably take more time. Sanding is the way to go IMO.

But I like it plastic looking. It stands out from every other car, looks more utility and hides the road muck better.

Simoniz 'Back to Black' is the perfect dressing for naked bumpers.

Autoglym Bumber Care for me.
