Performance clutch upgrade?

Featured Replies

As I am now running stage 2, I reckon a new clutch could be on the cards. With WOT in 5th and 6th I get quite bad slip, so it's only a matter of time till it goes. It's easy to drive around and at higher rpms, not a problem due to less torque.

I am after any recommendations and any positive/negative comments on the different ones available. Do most people run the Sachs? Particularly interested to hear what Harry has to say as I remember him hating the Sachs. Also, would it need the Sachs Dmf at the same time, or just stick with the oem one? Thanks.

Sachs is fine but the pedal is quite a bit heavier than standard and in stop start traffic it can start to make my knee ache a little. There is defo no slip with this clutch! I run DMF as its a lot nicer to drive with than SMF and unless the clutch starts sliping bad it shouldn't be a problem.

Helix is another option to concider.

Apparently the Helix clutch is awful around town etc.

It turns out my clutch wasn't bled properly when it was installed which is why it was an absolute bugger to use in any situation. My car used to get stuck in 1st and reverse, and with the clutch all the way down would still engage and pull the car forward if my right foot wasn't on the brake pedal. Serves me right for letting a local mechanic in a shed do it for me on the cheap!

Whilst the LSD was being installed at JabbaSport, I described the problem to them and they went about sorting it out for me. It's now perfect, the biting point is no longer right at the bottom of the pedal, it's no longer on or off, it's now perfect and feels just like the OEM clutch but only a bit stiffer.

So on this basis that it is now installed correctly, I would highly recommend the SACHS kit. I am using an OEM flywheel with mine and it's great. It can easily handle whatever I throw at it.

My mechanic said mine was a sod to bleed too.

Thanks for the replies guys. Nice to know the Sachs will be fine and that the oem dmf can handle the power. Luckily, I live in Devon, so not too much stop-start traffic. Better saving those pennies :D

s the TSI box, the same as in the pre FL TFSI?

I Think it is yeh.

Helix Clutch + SMF get very good reviews on Stage 2+ Leon Cupra's

SMF's are only "Horrible" on TDI's

when i drove carls old TFSI vRS with sachs clutch i never even noticed the difference till he asked me if i thought the clutch pedal was heavier than my own to which i replied, no. So even if there is a difference it must be minimal.

had the car on a RR yet Nobafett?

No not yet. I not aware of any decent rollers down here in Devon. Anyone?

Apparently the Tipton Garage gets a good write up.

As Sy says i had the Sachs clutch in my last vRS.

I don't think you notice a difference with the pedal unless you get used to driving it. I certainly noticed going from my vRS to Sy's the difference. The pedal is a bit stiffer and as has been pointed out it could cause a bit of pain if you have weak knees as the pedal is quite stiff for traffic/round town (my wife was always complaining about it)

Mine never skipped a beat and i was running 300lb/ft through it for nearly 55k miles.

Just checked and it states on their website, good for 'upto 270bhp'. Hopefully I'm already over that.

Thanks for that, looks like the Sachs is the way to go when finances permit. Cheers.

Yeah, I know Alan, he mapped my Wrx. Wasn't aware he had Dyno Rollers though. Cheers for that.
