I'm sure you'll get lots of advice on brands but as to where to get them you could try Googling Blackcircles, Etyres, Mytyres, Event-tyres. There are various others but not necessarily with outlets in your area. Most tend to offer lots of options, generally cheaper than the usual Kwik fit, ATS, National etc.

I just got 4 new Falken 452s fitted for around 85 quid each via Blackcircle with some Quidco on top. Seemed about the cheapest 'decent' brand I could find-

I use Vredestein ( spelling may vary )

I have them on all corners of the VRS and for 75 quid a piece fitted, quite reasonable. Last ages and are good in wet and dry.

Hope this helps.

thanks alot for your help, ill have a little look around...let you know how i get on

When it comes to tyres you get what you pay for! Have a look on camskill website mate.

I use falken 452's on the rear and kuhmo Ku39's on the front can't fault them at all good grip in the wet or dry. Only got the kuhmos as they were really cheap and they are 225/45/17 might be a lil louder and a lil harsher than the 205/50/17 452's, which I did have on the front before the kuhmos. Can't really fault either of them for the prices I paid.

I've just put a set of 215/35/18 Yokohama pradas all round on mine and boy do they grip!!! On the downside the road noise compared to my budgets I've just taken off is horrific!! The budgets did me 30k+ miles Inc 2 full days at coombe and 1 'ring' trip

Mine has Goodyear 'Efficientgrip' tyres on the front, impressed with them so far. Has a set of Kumhos on another car I had (can't remember which model) and they were really good and usually well priced.

Camskill are very good for price of tyres (and also oil)

Ive never tried the more expensive top of the range tyres, and so ive always compromised.

Personally ive had really good results with Kumho and Falken when new. But ive had some weird/scary handling issues with worn Kumhos in very wet conditions (probably not helped by iffy suspension) :dull:

Thats an odd size????

225 40 18 is what is closest to the std 205 50 17.

I have had a few makes

Marangoni Mythos (225 40 18) = good wet and dry last 20k+ grippy and were cheap.

Kumho 712 (225 40 18) = ok/good dry very hard last for ever not good in the wet Budget.

Mayrun MR800 (225 40 18) = pritty good in dry reasonable in wet. Fairly hard and not too noisy Budget.

Toyo t1R (225 45 17) = fairly quiate reasonable wear Awesome in Dry really good in the wet too(even on the old set I had on down to the markers they still were very good in the poaring rain) treat them nice and you could see 10-15k pos more. Mid range Love these tyres tho.

Falken 452 (225 40 18) = Good all round tyre best of all things. Down side: tram line a bit more than most, have a certain noise to them. Mid range. Very good tyre, last well and are safe in wet and dry, very good for the money.

Blackcircles (used)

My Tyres (used)

Camskill

Etyres

Tyre Trader

Mac Sam Tyres (used)(if and when they go back online?)

Google cheap tyres and it brings lots up.

fair one,

they are sweet rims tho. Just looked and you are loosing 4.5% on them tyres so at 70 your only doing around 66? also means your putting more miles on the car than its doing.

on my 225 40 18 its 40 mile exact from my house to Avonmouth were I go yet on the 225 45 17 its 42mile. same roads.

Still sweet rims tho, they dont have spacers do they?

sorry to change subject.

billy

it's on 160k and rising daily, i do 25miles each way to work in what ever car i use so can't make any difference.

nah no spacers at all ET26

Ive always used Kumhos on the various models of MG ZR ive had and i cant fault them .. truly a superb tyre for the money,

however when it came to getting tyres for my VRS, my local seemed to have trouble getting kumhos and this place is normally spot on.

so went for the equally priced FALKENs 205/50s standard tyres. The falkens seem to wear alot quicker front tyres lasted me 6k - 8k ish and are now totally illegal, not to bad grip wise.

Still i would prefer kumhos.

Sorry to ninja the thread a little bit but it seems theres a bit off differentiation between tyre sizes here for the standard 17" rims.

What other sizes of tyres apart from the 205/50/17s will fit on the standard 17" rims and not change mph reading etc etc???

Strange results here lol

I now use 452's after years of toyos

I find toyos arn't great in standing water or mildy moist roads, plus they don't last long due to the compound used.

The falkens seem to last a lot longer than most for me and kuhmos only did 5-6k of the fronts

The complete opposite of what the above poster (milkybadger) has just said ???

Work that one out lmao :giggle:

its all down to driving style and the type, I never get less than 10k out of a set of fonts but I am on the Mways more.

also its down to changing your tyres round, I will swap front to back every 3-4 month to prolong the set.

@ milkybadger none are spot on. the closest is the 225 45 17, a few go for it coz they say its cheaper but tbh to save a few £ on the tyre is false eco IMHO. you get slightly more noise, slightly less MPG, ever so slightly more miles on the clock than you actually do. Like I posted earlier on a trip out I make every day. Goolge says 39.8 miles. on 225 40 18 LCR rims and 452 wheels car shows 40 bang on pritty much every day. on the 225 45 17 spiders and t1R it was 42 mile pritty much every day I have them on.

Not too bothered as Ill be keeping the car so miles are not really that important to me so long as she goes.

emoticon-0136-giggle.gif Furrys set up makes me smile emoticon-0100-smile.gif

im running 215/35/19s Uniroyal Rainsport 2s - very pleased ( had limited choice - but still pleased ) i will say tho they do tend to give a squeel in the dry on harsh starts, but in the wet they have been amazing emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Quiet tho i will say that emoticon-0105-wink.gif

I do have the tendancy to drive like its just been removed without asking at times and its still here emoticon-0143-smirk.gif so again i give them emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Maybe it is down to driving style, but with the kumhos i had on my ZR i drove like a complete and total %£$'#@"er, taking corners, roundabouts etc alot harder than i do in my Skoda, but then again the skoda is bigger, heavier, rolls like a boat and youve got more power to spin the wheels every 5 seconds. (TC off as always)

Strange. definatly going to try and find me some kumhos this time.
