STREAM MP3

Featured Replies

I have a standard stream in my octavia, and have been offered a stream MP3 version. Will I need to have a PIN from the current owner, and if so how does he go about getting one?

Sorry if it's a question that has been asked before.

Yes you'll need the 4-digit code for the new stereo. the current owner will have to contact a main skoda dealer to get it, with proof of ownership of the vehicle, and depending on his relationship with them/how generous they're feeling they might give it to him for free or charge ~£30 for admin costs.

Will they know which particular vehicle it was originally fitted to, or could I give them proof of ownership for MY vehicle?

A Skoda dealer won't give you the code if you just waltz in with a radio under your arm, and if you fit it to yours and then ask them for the code they will give you the code for the Stream you have just taken out, as that is what they will have on record for your vehicle.

Perhaps if your friend has it currently fitted to their and this is the car it was originally fitted to at the factory they can go in to the Skoda dealer and obtain the code.

You can get them decoded but you have to send them off and it isn't normally a standard £20 decode like the old days.

Basically, if they don't know the code it doesn't really have any value other than as a doorstop, as stream mp3s go for about £50 on ebay with a code. It will cost you that to get it decoded.

Right. Got the code and changed the head unit. All working OK until I tried to play music from the multichanger. The vocals on the music are VERY quiet. Only sounds like it is playing certain frequencies from the music.

Any ideas?

The stream and stream MP3 have different pin connections on the back. You need to alter where the CD changer ground pin is currently on the quadlock, its dead easy to do.

Look at the old stream pin diagram on the headunit and see where it is, then look at the same picture on the stream MP3 and move the pin to the correct hole. You'll need something thin to slot into the connector block to release the pin.

I've tried to swap pins over, but can't work out how to get them out! I've tried putting something thin in to release individual pins, but with no success.

What is the knack?

I got mine done the other day.

Remove the connector from the quick release block. Then you need to slide out the black connector from inside the blue casing. There is an arrow to tell you which way to slide it.

Once you have just the black connector, you will see a very small aperture in line with each pin. You will need a very small precision screwdriver or needle, or suchlike. Push into the aperture, and at the same time tug the cable end, and it will just slide out.

To fit to another pin socket, just push the pin in and it will click in and locate.

Re-fit all of the connector blocks, and bob should be your uncle.

TIP: I found that when refitting to the head unit, the blue connector didn't fully engage first time, and i had to give it an additional manual shove to get a good connection

Thanks for that: I'll take a look tomorrow to see how its done.
