Columbus FM reception

Featured Replies

Hi all, apologies if this has been covered before ( I carried out a quick google and site search and cant find what im looking for..). My local VAG specalist retrofitted a columbus head unit a few months ago for me. Its been working great appart from poor FM reception i.e. if I loose reception of a radio station when I drive in to for example an underground car park the unit will not automatically pick it up again upon leaving the car park, I have to re scan for the station. I understand that people have an issue with AM reception but that doesnt really bother me. I have been advised I can get an adaptor fitted to the rear of the unit, any thoughts on this?

Also my sat nav reception can be poor from time to time with the unit not being able to locate any satelites and some times being off by a few Km's. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

Alan

They should have fitted the Fakra aerial adaptor.

Thanks Wardy, just bought that one!!Any thoughts on the dodgy sat nav reception some times? AFAIK the sat nav aerial was a magnet type and they just stuck it on the crash bar behind the dash board.

Bar location behind the dash for the GPS antenna is the default for retrofits. 000s have placed it there with no ill effects.

Could be worth re-checking the connections for the antenna and also the location.

They should have fitted the Fakra aerial adaptor.

what does this adaptor do?

Allows the standard aerial connection to connect to both antenna inputs on the back of the Columbus.

So it can receive AM stations, as well as correctly use the RDS system to keep a reasonable signal strength for FM stations, whilst travelling.
