How to on seats :)

Featured Replies

OK guys and girls ive decided that my beige granddad interior has had its day so its time to consider getting some vrs seats :) first of all ive never had the interior out of this car so is there a how to? Secondly how do i go about putting the heated elements in the new seats and finally the dash and door cars are beige (just the bottom of the dash) so i reckon i will have to get new door cards seeing as everything below the steering wheel is beige except the carpets also will it look ok painting the dash with that dash paint to make it all black? :p

I'll take some pics later on tonight to show you how to remove the seats.

Here is the guide on removing the seat covers as well

If you want heated seats you will have to buy heated vRS seats and join up the wires. Few vRS's have heated seats as it was a cost option.

Check out 'softscoop's' thread on installing VW Polo sport seats. Far better than the vRS ones IMO.

May be wrong but if the car is an Elegance won't it have heated seats? I think he just wants to know how to transfer the heater elements from his old seats into a set of standard vRS chairs. But then again I could be wrong

Ok to remove your seats you'll need an M10 spline bit. They're available on eBay for about £3 if you haven't got one.

If you have airbags in your seats, disconnect your battery first!!

I found it much easier to remove the rear seats first as that gave me loads more access to get in the car to handle the fronts.

Pull the bases up as if to fold them flat. You'll see there are only 2 clips holding these in place. I didn't get a picture of this as:

a: It's pretty obvious how they come out

b: It was getting a bit dark for the camera

c: I forgot :dull:

Once the bases are out, fold the backs down, and then you'll be able to see the clip. There is one on each side of the car.

Get a fairly chunky flat bladed screwdriver and push the white tab towards the back of the car.

That side of the seat should now be free. Lift up about 3 or 4 inches, and you should be able to slide the seat off the middle support. I couldn't get a pic of this without taking them out again but it should be obvious once you're there.

Now the rears are out you'll definitely find it easier removing the fronts.

Slide the front seats all the way to the front, and you'll see the 2 bolts holidng the back of the runners

Once these are out, slide the seats all the way to the back and you'll then see the bolts for at the front.

Once all these are undone it's a case of unplugging anything for CD changer, airbags and heated seats etc.

The seats should then just lift out. It's much easier if you get a friend, skivvy, slave etc to lend a hand at this point as they're heavy, and it's very easy to catch the runners on the bodywork of the car.
