From http://www.dvla-som.co.uk/home/en/FAQ/#straight_onto_vehicle

What happens once I have a bought a personalised number from DVLA?

We will send you a Certificate of Entitlement (V750). Keep this safe, as this is the form you will need when you are ready to put your personalised registration mark onto your vehicle.

Once I have bought a personalised registration mark, do I have to put it straight onto a vehicle?

No. You have until the expiry date shown on your V750 to put the mark onto a vehicle
.

You just need to buy the plate - and you need to check when they're released which will be June/July time - then give the V750 form to the dealer and they'll sort it all out - it won't cost you anything since the DVLA cost includes the transfer. Here's what the form looks like - http://www.dvla-som.co.uk/template/images/faq-v750.jpg

Likewise when trading in a vehicle with a number you want to transfer, as I did, just tell the dealer - pay him

thanks for the info, very useful. Do you have a piccy of your car with the oversized plate?

  • 2 weeks later...

i just bought an oversize plate too! only because i liked the look of DRJ's. Cant have him parked next to me in work with a better plate now can we!

mine has the "cymru" welsh dragon on it too.

it was a nightmare to get the original plate off... hair dryer kicked in to over drive!
