Getting a TV in the boot!

Featured Replies

Probably buying a new tv this weekend, maybe 37" or 40" LCD. Does anyone know if I could fit this in the boot of a hatchback octavia? With the seats down obviously.

Cheers

Take some blankets/duvet with you and that way if it doesnt just take it out of the box, flat pack it and lie it on top ;) (did it with a 50" but mine is an estate).

40inch fits fine with the back seats slightly forward ;)

Should be fine, although i've heard that it's best to keep them upright as much as possible.

Thats Plasma, You can lob LCD's around a bit lol

That's an old wifes tale now. Used to be the warehouse monkey in comet, plasmas come flat stacked on the lorry.

As for a 42 in an octy 2 = yes, unless your stooping tall seats won't have to move ither just fold the backs down. Managed to squeeze a 40 in a mini (bini) once lol

I've had a 46" in my estate easily, had to drop the seats though.

The floor dimensions are the same in the estate as they are in the hatch so assuming the box isn't bigger than normal you'll have no problems.

P.S remember to empty your boot before you set off :giggle:

Had 42" in my vrs no problem, also a rowing machine, home gym etc etc, obviously not all at the same time. ;)

Cheers for the replies, was pretty sure it'd fit but didn't want to look like a fool in the car park!

i fit a 55'' in a Yeti and thats 10cm narrower than the octavia ;)

42" plasma went on my back seats! Was ideal because it was stuck in place

same here 46led pops in a treat enjoy new tele

All you fellas with huge tellys in the car, dosent it hurt your eyes watching something that big so close

Current panasonic 46" plasma boxes fit upright in a hatch, transverse across the rear seat with the seat squab folded up. LG 50" box has to lie down flat in the boot.

Once had 6x 6'6" doors in the back of my hatch with the seats down.

Stand it upright on the back seat, add some ratchet straps right around the back bolster and some bubble wrap and cardboard to stop them from damaging the screen / frame. I managed to get a 50" LG in the Octy this way but it was tight.

DO NOT lay a large screen on its front or back - there is every chance you will crack the screen on the first bump.

Assuming you are buying the TV brand new it will be more than adequately packaged for you to lay it in the boot without having to mess about strapping it to the seats.

That's my 40" in the boot. Lots of room!

That's a slightly odd thing to photograph.

42" fits in the estate easily. With plenty of length, so even with the lesser boot height you should still fit it in.

I am slightly odd.

Thanks guys,

In the end they didn't have the TV in stock so its being delivered on Thursday. £5 delivery charge but there's an offer on £10 off home delivery or something so it ended up £5 cheaper!! Weird.

I can top that:

A full size washing machine in the boot, with the back seats still in place! and the boot lid shut fine too!

I'm constantly amazed at what these things will swallow!
