No-one's got one in the Roomster when i asked... I just can't see it hacking it in that car, certainly not when fully loaded.

Roomster is heavier so it may not be quite so lively...yeah!

Thanks for all the information everyone, Im still not too sure about the 1.6 cr, maybe ive looked too much into it, everywhere you go on the net regarding diesels seems to say avoid DPF,s , Im going to be using it for driving instruction ( part time,10 mature pupils per week, city driving 99% of the time)and having to keep an eye out for the dpf light worries me, if i was to take a pupil for test and the light was on they would refuse to take them out.

Maybe the tsi 105 may be better in the end as i only do around 15000 miles a year.

The internet is a wonderful thing but can also drive you batty if you dig too much!

Hello Ken, I'm an ADI in kent and will be getting the monte 1.6tdi in a month or so, I do probably double the mileage you are doing but i don't see a major problem with the dpf, most of the mileage is going to be around town but i'm sure once or twice a week i can find a pupil to take on a 10 / 15 minute dual carrigeway run or just for the hell of it go the long way home. I'll put a post up when I get it to let people know what it's like as a learner car.

Just out of interest, where, other than motoring journos scaremongering and people repeating the carp they say...?

The "DPF Issue" seems to have started in their early days, just like the mountain made from the molehill of the Catalytic Converter when they were first fitted to petrol cars...

I have seen very little real evidence of problems with DPFs, despite motoring journo's scaremongering, and those that i have seen can be traced to driver error rather than a fault in the equipment...

Now you have said you will use for driving instruction I suggest you need to test drive both and not new but with at least 6000 miles covered and decide which you feel is best.

Since I assume your lessons will be an hour or more rather short journeys so the engine will get properly warm I think if you chose the diesel you are much less likely to have DPF issues than say a district nurse doing 20 start-stop journey of a few minutes over a shift when the water never mind the oil will not reach the normal working temperature.

Also which ever you choose a 20-30 minute blast every week or two will be good for the engine.
