HTC Sensation

Featured Replies

Any members taken the plunge yet?

Particularly interested if you've upgraded from a HTC Desire (original flavour)

I haven't but its the next flagship HTC so cant go far wrong there. No S-Off atm, so no heavy modding just yet, the user LeeDroid (on XDA) has that phone so expect some awesome mods in the near future though. Battery life only as good as the DHD.

My contract still got a good 18months? So I will probably miss this 'seasons' of phones.

Ah, but by then we'll have quad cores, so you'll be ahead of folks like me upgrading now.

I went to the samsung galaxy S II and havent been dissapointed..

Samsungs history of poor ongoing support puts me off. You get one maybe 2 updates then you're on your own as they've moved onto the next design.

One reason SWMBO ditched them.

That's exactly why I ditched them and went with HTC.

Samsung had absolutely no interest in their "flagship" phone 3 or 4 months after relase.

The screen on the GS2 should put the HTC one to shame if it's like the original one though. There's nothing nicer than being able to use your phone in bright sunlight - apart from putting a Leedroid rom on it!

I think I'm sold on the sensation, but am going to hold off.

I'm thinking of venturing into SIM-Free and a 30 day rolling contract instead next time. Main reason is my T-mobile desire only really had one update OTA, where as the sim-free's have had multiple updates.

Cant afford £450 for a phone right now though.

It's currently sim free on Amazon for £399.

That's still an awful lot of airtime though.

Exactly. Looking at £15 SIM plan instead of the 40 odd now.

Wondering how much my desire might be worth to bring the cost down.

Forget the £15 plan as tmobile regularly has a deal for £7.50 which gives 600 mins, 0.5gb and u/l texts.

They do? On their site?

Found out I can upgrade so I can lower tariff, but phone will cost as much as buying from Amazon. Cant lower existing contract though until it ends in October.

Have a search on hotukdeals and you will see all the details as an expired deal.

I think the deal is normally a tenner but if you pick the right csa then you may still get it.

Good luck.

Thanks.

Hmm.. don't understand route of sim only deals if your into latest phone, unless your waiting specifically for another new age phone to come out in the next month. Sensation hasn't been granted the T3 awards yet so get it while its not so hot :giggle:

oh and +1 on HUKD, unfortunately the people there are a bit loopy now.. I try avoid contact at all cost.

also use Quidco for a nice wad of cashback (currently a o2 simplicity deal that makes it £3 a month for 12 months)

I've just upgrade from a Desire to a SGS2 - been a week now but not really enjoying the experience.

It's had universally good reviews, but there are many things that annoy me about it when compared to the Desire - even though this is a last gen phone.

Most of the annoyances can be lessened by apps from the market, but some remain - For example, I never knew how much I relied on the notification LED on the Desire until I realised the Samsung didn't have one emoticon-0149-no.gif

@Timmyboy. It was the same with the 1st gen SGS but I do remember downloading an LED substitute program so there should be one so you can 'make do' with the SGS2 after all.

Thanks, I have it already - yes it works, but it's a battery drain, and it's a bit naff really.

Again, it's a compromise - I was considering swapping for a Sensation but I've read some awful reports on reliability and would give up my nice warranty if I got rid of the Samsung.

fyi, s-off now, LeeDroid moved over to sensation, awesome roms to come.

I find the lack of notification light irritating as well as I need to keep flicking the screen on to check, an update which pulsed the capacitive buttons infrequently would do fine as Nokia did on some of their phones. I also miss having a physical shutter button for the camera although Samsung aren't alone in removing this handy button, the lack of a dedicated search button is also a pain as you have to hunt for the search button on screen which is usually near the top of the screen and often needs scrolling.

The biggest issue for me is the keyboard though which I'm struggling to live without (I have the S2 on loan) but with the Droid 3 and MyTouch4G Slide supposedly not reaching our shores I may have to wave a tearful farewell to having a proper keyboard.

John

You have a Desire-Z then if you're missing the keyboard? I find the touch screen perfectly adequate, though, to keep slating it, the one on the S2 was dire - there are a few available from the market (Perfect Keyboard etc) which are almost as good as the one packaged in Sense but not quite there.

Anyway, the good news is I bought a Sensation for £300, flogged the S2 for £340, finally plucked up the courage to root the damn thing and am now running Leedroid Sensational - and it's excellent.

With the exception of Gmail now being officially rubbish (breaking a lot of third party software that tied into it and push mail seems to have stopped working for me and many others on the interwebs) I'm 100% please - everything that was bugging me about the S2 has been put to bed :)

Doesn't the SGS2 come with swype pre-installed as I believe the SGS1 did? Maybe it just needs enabling - long click then choose it from a text input screen.

If you're using the Sensation then you'll have to install the free beta version.

I never got on with swype
