NOT HAPPY

Featured Replies

So, picked up my Combi 170 DSG DPF Elegance today,

Initially blown away with the car and all the options, wheels looked a bit busier than id expected, especially as I'd specced the Lunas but couldnt have them.

Happy I was until,

I discovered that the Park Assist system hasnt been fitted, front and rear sensors and maxi dot, but no park assist!

Then I discover the wheels on it are infact the 9 spoke Luxon, not the std Themistos.

The wheels I know can be sorted, the Park assist I'm fuming about as I think its a factory fit only item.

Gutted.

Although it is a lovely car, and the sound system upgrade was well worth it! the mdi not so as the Bluetooth is fine.

What has the dealer said?

Could it be the wrong car sent to the dealers?

i think park assist is only a software option.

As you have front and rear sensors i don't see what component missing from your car.

So i believe that the Park assist can be added with a software configuration or something like this.

I will be interesting to see what will be the solution of this.

Just sent some emails.

Re the park assist, I think its more than just software, theres no button to activate it!

The cars right as every other extra is on it (and there are a few).

Will find out tomorrow.

There is a button to activate it, just below the parking sensor button in the gearbox surround. ...just pm'd you re my experience!

Yes, I'm aware of where the button should be, its not there..

the parking sensor button is there, no park assist button with a steering wheel tho..

I wouldn't hold out much hope on the park assist being retro fitted by a dealer - most of them can't do the most basic of software adaptations (even when they have been paid to do them)

As for the wheels, well you did spec the no cost option of the Luna's, which were replaced by the Luxon's, so I would of expected them to be on the car.

You could of always rejected the car....

If the car is not as ordered reject the car imediately and insist they re order the correct spec, It is their (or Skoda's) mistake and insist on a loan car in the mean time.

Rejected my wifes Octavia last July due to the DSG failing after 90 miles and had no problem at all and got the replacement in November, your car is not as ordered so you do have rights and delivery times seem to be dropping, I have a second Superb on order (170combi, DSG, and most of the toys), was originally told Christmas and was told yesterday will now be end of October

or if your happy to do it renegotiate the price

What does your new vehicle order form say, the one you signed when ordering if it states "Park Assist " then I see no reason why you could not reject, if it is on this form it will also show the extra price you will have paid.

Or just negotiate a discount with the dealer. Rejecting the car will mean starting all over and having to wait 8 months or more for the car to turn up.

My superb has park assist, as it was on the car when I bought it secondhand. I have used it just once in the 18 months I have owned the car, and that was to show a work colleague that the car can park itself. I think its safe to say you won't miss it, and once you realise it has a reputation for destroying alloy wheels you'll never use it. The system will attempt to park level with the car in front, so if that car is a fiesta or a car narrower than the superb then welcome the shredded alloys as the car hits the kerb.

This was my also my initial thoughts on the park assist, especially when it put my N/S/R tyre into the curb (fortunately I had my narrower winter wheels and tyres on).

HOWEVER as someone rightly pointed out and the clue is in it's name, it is only an assistant (just like reversing sensors are) so I now keep a close eye on the curb (easy to do when the N/S mirror automatically dips) and if it is getting too close I pull forward a bit.

It is true that you will probably not use it very often - depending on the amount of parallel parking you do, but when you do, it will get you into a very small gap

I paid for this option on my last Superb and didn't bother with it on this one. Having tried it once on the 1st car, I never used it again. It's just a sales gimmick and yes, as pointed out above, it will park your car on the kerb (including scraping your kerbside wheels) if that's how the car behind is parked. By the time you've driven round looking for the perfect space for the car to reverse park itself into with the cars next to it properly parked, you could have done it yourself and been half way through your shopping or whatever.

On the other hand, if you need the park assist because you find the car too difficult to park, maybe you should consider something smaller.

Something smaller, lol.

No, I can park ok thks.

Issue is I paid for an option that's not there, I'll probably be negotiating a towbar out of this now as it'll prove more useful.

But thanks for the tip ;-)

That would be a result. A towbar is definately far more useful than park assist. Apologies I forgot to put a smilie on the parking comment to show it was meant as a joke! :giggle:

I have the park assist and use it almost every day, for me it's not a sales gimmick, Actually it works 99% of the time.

And as stated before you can look that your are not hitting the kerb with the dipping mirror.

Very handy tool.

And you should know that I can part pretty well however the car itself does it much better.

No doubt, but can you park? :)

Well you could use the tow bar hitch as a parking aid, stop when it goes bump, simple.

I have to be honest, despite this issue ( which on balance I'd have perhaps used just to impress people) I love the car, it's without any doubt far more than I could have hoped for.

The towbar, whether towing the caravan, boat or bikes will certainly prove far more useful so hey, I may actually come out of this on top.

Cheers for the comments, and Phil, never say never mate, you'd be surprised how useful a caravan can be on occasion. ;-)

Ok, so, the order was messed up at their end ( not Skoda ) and they have agreed to supply and fit me a towbar instead. I have to say I'm very pleased with that.

It'll be a removable towbar so no touch parking either ;-)

regarding park assist, as the old saying goes a bad workman will always blame his tools.so a the driver who hits a curb while using park assist must be a bad driver??????????.i use mine all the time and the car has never touched a curb.glad everything turned out ok for you in the end.

I did not order a Hill Holder because the salesman told me it was not needed. I rejected the car some moths later when I realised that it was necessary and after a pretty fierce fight with my dealer, I got a replacement car, with which I am very happy. The details are still on this site; my experience might be of assistance to you.

Good luck.

It isn't neccessary with DSG unless you only have one leg and no handbrake.

Having front and rear parking sensors is one thing, but the vehicles fitted with park assist have sensors on the bumper right by the wheel arch, I guess that is the one that measures the parking space you drive up to.

So apart from the button, as already mentioned, there is also these additional sensors required. I would guess it is a factory only fit unless it can be done by a dealer - I do not know.

So with park assist you have 6 sensors on the front, and 4 on the back. Without park assist, but front and rear sensors you will have 4 sensors on the front, and 4 on the back.
