Crashed

Any ideas how much it will cost to get a front drivers door and wing sorted both dented in a relatively low speed bump (no airbags or injuries) but my fault. Reported to insurance but excess is about £600.

I've got appointments booked to have it assessed but need to know how much I might be looking at if anyones had similar repairs (basically two panels need major straightening or replacing).

Small bodyshops should charge at most 400 (as long as the door doesn't need replacing), but the stealers bodyshops and franchise bodyshops will take you over a grand!!

Got quoted for my misses car (back quarter and rear door):

Small bodyshop 550.00 included new rear door.

Vauxhall bodyshop 2200.00 odd

Ford bodyshop 2400.00 odd

But the bigger bodyshops will put car on a jig etc. But also change bits that are not damaged.

with my car it was cheaper it just replace parts than trying to get them straightened out and re-sprayed. Try your local TPS for an idea of prices of spares, i was suprised how relativly cheap parts were.

Going through insurance so no longer bothered about cost. The cheapest quote I could find was £1150 as both the wing and door needed replacing however the labour was more than 3/4 the cost of the repair.

I think I need to learn how to spray cars and bolt on new doors looks like a licence to print money.

Thanks for the replies chaps.

It may seem like that, but remember the labour charge includes all the charges of running the repair centre.

Labour is usually by far the biggest part of the cost.

So you may be able to do it in your garage cheaper, but you will be unlikley to get approved for insurance work. ;)

Oh no Dave

You realise you will have to pay the insurers you initial excess charge

Then for five years declare an at fault claim with the increased insurance cost that incures, thus costing you abour £2k extra on your insurance

Insurers a bigger licence to print money
