DK to Croatia and back...........

Featured Replies

Number one son said: Why don't you come down and visit us on our holiday in Krk?" So what the heck, I drove down, spent a few days on the beach and drove back.

3400 km total round trip. Aveage speed for the whole trip: 90 km/hr, fuel consumption 15 km/liter or 42 mpg.

Maximum indicated velocity 210 km/hr. No measurable oil consumption.

Thanks for that, sounds like you had a GREAT trip. ..........................................................now, where are the photos emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

No time for photos on the road, and driving alone no copilot to snap them underway..............and the ones of the grandkids probably do not have any interest here.

I can add that as the transfer stages were midweek, avoiding Germany and Austria during the weekend, there were no significant delays or problems on the Autobahn, nor in the tunnels through the Alps. Even the Karavanka between Austria and Slovenia was a breeze - and a couple of hours delay there is not uncommon.

Drove to Croatia a few years back. Nice country to visit.

We stopped in Austria and split the driving over two days though.

One stop on the way down - near Nürnberg - and two on the way back to meet old friends - one in Frankfurt/Main and one in Lüneburg.

Oh I'm jealous! What a lovely trip that must be! Pity we over here on our island always have to factor a very expensive ferry or channel train into the equation!

More or less the same here - Gedser-Rostock about £110 or Rødby-Puttgarten about £80. Alternative, the Great Belt Bridge £30 plus an additional 100 km to Hamburg. I have about 90 minutes to either ferry from home and actually enjoy the 45 or 105 minute break. Time for breakfast on the way south or a snack on the way back.

I booked in advance with P&O ferries and thought it was quite reasonable 900000.

Oh in advance it can be, but not at a drop of a hat as Jesper's trip here implies!

Drop of a hat is right. I have a commercial electronic bridge pas that get's you on (and off) first seconds after it removed the fare from your account. ½ hourly schedule across Rødby-Puttgarten and two hourly schedule on the other one.
