ABS pump replacement on Fabia 1

Featured Replies

Hi, Could anyone recommend an independent garage in the Croydon/South London/North Surrey area to carry out this repair. Plus plenty more repairs judging from past experience.

Also if someone has had this job done I would be interested in the cost. I expect to get one quote next week but would like a comparison.

I am needing the same, expensive my friend, I have been quoted £900 for a genuine skoda part from the dealer.

I understand that this is a common problem for the Fabia.

Firstly you need the correct part number, this can be found on the top of the unit itself, which is located directly behind the battery housing, it is a series of numbers and letters and the replacement needs to be exactly the same. The book time is 2 hours for this job.

There are some second hand ABS pumps located on ebay and I have been calling breakers to find one for myself, who knows how long a second hand one will last?

Good Luck!

Thanks for your help. But good news for me as it turned out to be a faulty fuse costing £2.89 and not as diagnosed by the machine as needing a replacement ABS pump. So thanks to the ABS thread on Briskoda and some members pointing this out I seem to have saved myself maybe £1000!

Hi ernie,

I am in a similar situation where my ABS pump has failed and needed replacement. I got a second hand one and that too has failed on the machine, although the person I got it from says he had tested it and it was fine. I think I need to change the garage. Could you let me know which garage you went to?

Thanks

Check the fuse on top of the battery, the test plans usually say check fuses and people assume.

you could try BBA Reman as they repair these units

Only up to a point!!

My unit threw up codes like "cannot communicate with ABS unit".......sent it to BBA and they couldn't even "talk" to it, so they stripped the electrics side off and had a good look to see it it was water damage/corrosion on a PCB board jumper, or a pin etc.....still no luck after two days they gave up as they recon a chip on the board went bad and the boards aren't avaliable seperately!!........so a new ABS unit from Skoda then!...£750-£800 just for the black plastic box part which houses the electrics!.... :'(
