Bonnet vents.....

Featured Replies

I need sone help on this one folks.....

I need to keep the temperature down under my bonnet and have decided on fabricating some air ducts for the turbo/manifold etc. But as hot air rises I need some way of allowing the hot air to escape through the bonnet.

I don't want it to look chavy or like it's just been blitzed by the Halfords boys if you know what I mean!

Discretion is my middle name!!! Any thoughts/pics very much welcome!!!

Thanks inadvance!!

Steve

I always taught the discreet looking vents of the Sierra cosworth or new focus Rs would look well on it

Astra gte 16v vents are pretty discreet or get some bonnet raisers fabricated.

The raisers are popular in the ford rs scene, just lifts the top edge of the bonnet

Ohhh astra gte would look real well, or try find a octy wrc evo3 bonnet, wow I love the wrc octy

imo the duct you need are not to allow air into the bay but to allow air to be removed from the bay

so option could be bonnet raisers

but imo the best would be to get some reverse louvers put in at the back of the bonnet and then feed cold air from the bottom of the turbo area so cold air in from bottom leaving from top bonnet if that makes sense

the problem you have with scoops i.e air into bay is that the path away from the turbo is blocked with chassis and steering rack + hot exhaust etc so not the viable option.

There used to be a place that would punch louvres into your own bonnet, any place, shape or form so that might be worth a try

It's not that easy once the car's moving. Hot air rises in still conditions, but I think you'll find that the intercooler inlet is below the turbo compressor wheel outlet, and the exhaust tailpipe is below the turbo drive wheel!

Similarly, to get hot air out from under a bonnet in a moving car, you need to either construct a big duct like you'll find on the Corvette C6 GT2 cars and All-Nissan GT 400 cars, or find a place where the underbonnet air pressure is higher than the over-bonnet pressure, and let in louvres, Sierra Cossie ducts or the like there.
