Low boost pressure

Featured Replies

Hi I'm new here I bought a vrs about 3 weeks ago from mansfield and last week the car started to loose power and the turbo whoosh got louder. Took it too the garage and on vcds come up with low boost pressure I didn't get to see the code for it. We took it for a drive with it hooked up to vcds and the guy said it's getting some boost but not as much as it's asking for.

Does anyone know what it might be or what to check. I can't hear any leaks, but this is my first turbo and don't really know where do look. The big pipe front right expands when it's reved up if that's any help.

It will most likely be a split diverter valve. Around £48 for a new one and an hour or so to replace.

I agree!! Mine came up with the same error code. I bought one from here http://fr-rtuning-shop.co.uk/AUDI/S3/S3-8P-2006-/VAG-OEM-2-0TFSI-Type-D-Diverter-Valve/Dump-Valve/prod_1163.html

The link above is the one you want (if it is a petrol).

There are some good procedures on here on how to replace it, all you need is some axle stands, hex allen key for removing the undertray & a 5mm allen key or socket driver for removing the diverter valve. It made a massive improvement when I changed mine and the error code disappeared.

cheers guys

Ive just took it back to the local german specialist and he does not know what it is. There going to have a look over it today. I noticd on the job sheet he has put EVAP?

Its used a litre of oil in a few hundred miles also are they ment to use that much oil ?

Not sure what EVAP is, could be a code for their in-house diagnostics. Your Octy will use oil however not after a few hunderd miles!!! Mine takes about a litre after every 3K miles.

As your VRS is still quite new to you it could be that the oil was low'ish' when you got it and after your couple of hundred miles that brought the oil light on. The thing to do is to top it up and see how far you get after a known top-up point; how old is your vrs?

Keep us updated & good luck!

The garage think it's my turbo that's gone, they have done a number if test but i dint know what they were. The lad just got back from the final test when I got the something that controls the turbo he said. So will find out tomorrow what the out come is.

Does it sound like the turbo would of gone?

Turbo waste gate maybe? As for oil light coming on dont worry to much about it. I had to put a litre in today after my oil light came on. Car was serviced 8k ago and looking through the threads it doesnt sound to uncommon to have to top up oil half way through service intervals.

Do you have the logs he done? Would be alot easier for people to help you with this..

Have they checked the diverter valve yet?

I dont know if checked the dv he never said what he checked. I don't have the logs either, all I seen on vcds in red was Low boost pressure I couldn't see the code.

I noticed when I go on over run in 5th or 6th it at 60 it slowed down pretty fast.

Well there's no point fearing a possible new turbo when the most common (and cheapest) of failures could fix the fault instantly

Again I agree with shark. Is the car back with you? You can check the DV yourself if you have a spare hour. There really isn't any point putting the car through any more diags if the dv's not yet been checked. You mention the turbo is working albeit a low boost. You gotta get that dv checked before you go any further. PM me your email address and I'll send you a pic of my failed dv so you can see where the failure occurs.

I'm going back tomorrow morning to pick it up. I've seen a picture of the dv with a split in it. How easy is it to get to from underneath.

Edit

Just back from the garage with my car £100 lighter and car not fixed. They can't find any leaks, wastegate cheacked and working but still has low boost when not connected. They said it needs solenoid control valve £20? But they didn't say it was the dv and they didn't take it out and look at it.

The fault code is 000665 which wiki says check the dv

I don't think I'll be going back there again.

Got a dv on order Audi and skoda don't have them in stock they have to order one in. Is it easier to get it from the offside wheel arch or from under the car?

Hi Russ, I've heard of both ways to do it, the majority (and myself) go for it under the car. You'll find it on the drivers side behind the sump, the electrical connector can be a bugger to remove. I put a small flat blade ito the top of the connector to release the tab and gently pulled it off.

Take a look at the following link, i it explains the procedure fitting an additional BOV, however as you won't be doing that just ignore the spacer & follow the procedure for removal, in the words of Mr Haynes, "The install will be the same as removal but in reverse".

Cheers guys it was the dv. Just fitted the new one and now I have no boost lol I get boost when I start the car upto 3rd then it goes into limp mode. If I stop and start the car I get boost upto 3rd again

Does the error code need erasing with vcds or can I disconnect the battery for so long and it will reset it?

Edited by Russ_vRS

Get it reset then take it a drive again see what happens, could be more than a DV by the sounds of it.

I don't have vcds. And I don't really want to take it back to the garage because there rubbish. Would disconnecting the battery reset it?

I've just got back from work the car is fine aslong as i dont go over 3500 rpm. But when you do it looses all boost and the revs g up slowly. It didnt do that with the knackerd dv in, the revs would go up fast.

What you ideally need is someone local who has VCDS and run some logs to see what its doing or a run on a rolling road would help diagnose the problem. Can you get to somewhere like Awesome in Manchester or anywhere local that has these facilites?

He bought it in mansfield, so shark performance are on his door step

I have just returned for the garage with good news which could turn in to very bad news. I have over boost fault code 000564. When my car was in the garage last time they did a smoke test and didnt find any leaks and they said there was a crack in a solenoid which was £20 so hopefully its just the N75 if there still £20.

I have my original N75 solenoid in the garage you could have for free and just cover the cost of postage if you want. It works perfectly and I only changed it to solve my P0299 fault code, which it didnt so it is working fine.

They are a pig to fit but made easier if you remove the inner front right arch liner.
