Seat Ibiza Exhaust

Featured Replies

Pastywagon #2 has a noisy exhaust.

Having been to my local friendly tyre and exhaust place he suggests loose/dying baffles.

No problem really as it actually sounds a bit bassier and rortier and appeals to the chav within

However this increased noise has now been joined by a louder one which when wringing it's neck is accompanied by a complete vibration of the cabin.

A quick poke about underneath and I reckon that the centre section has probably shifted back enough to bring the exhaust into contact with a cross brace and essentially all the engine vibrations are being transfered straight through the body shell. Not nice.

I think you can just about see in this picture that the exhaust is touching the brace.

Based on this picture and my want to spend the smallest amount possible.

  • Will removing the cross brace - circled in red - all together (thus stopping the vibration) cause any issues?
  • Or would replacing the large rubber bush (circled in yellow) be a better option given it currently has large amounts of play in all directions?

I cant see the picture on this computer but if you think it has adjusted itself then you may be able to readjust it with a few thumps from a rubber headed aduster.

A cable tie over the bush should sort that out nicely

a rubber headed adjuster.

^^^ quality!

I'm was tempted to get "the adjuster" out but given the exhaust has been exposed to the elements for 12 years and seems to be mostly made up of rust I feel brute force may result in more bad than good :S

I'm no longer picking up bad vibrations!

Although the source of the horrific racket was actually of my own making.

A slight rattle had existed since i collceted the car and to investigate I reversed up onto one of the massive kerbs around my house and stuck myself underneath.

Upon finding everything rusty and a little loose I shurgged and decided there was nothing more i could do.

Upon dropping the car forward off the monumentam kerb I caught the bottom of the back box - uh-oh!

The forward movement gave enough force to loosen a very corroded clamp that was holding the centre section to cat and everything rear of the cat was moved about half an inch towards the rear of the car; pushing the centre section into the bracket as seen in the above picture and thus the vibration got a million times worse!

I have removed the clamp as a temporary measure with the hope of getting to a tyre/exhaust place and havnig them pull the exhaust back into line at a later date
