Softening the ride

hmmm i might be tempted by Si's Eibach springs when he takes Gareth's coiles.

What about fitting 55 profile tyres?

55 profiles are too big for a Fabia. I tried. It looked ridiculous and they scrubbed like hell. 50 you will probably get away with.

It's the sus setup. Trust me :)

If you're going for comfort, or put it this way - not fussed about increasing the handling abilities, stick with std springs and change the dampers.

Pretty sure I've got rid of all my Fabia suspension parts now, but if I find some std dampers I'll let you know

It's probably the shocks that are shot mate,

Stiffer shorter springs will probably make it worse if you continue on the same

shocks. Euro car parts are having a Bilstein clearout at the moment.

The B6 variant should work fine with standard springs.

55 profile tyres may help though, I'm running on 50's at the

moment as my winter wheels are on the car right now while

my alloys are away and I can feel a slight improvement in ride quality.

They are coming off as soon as I get back to Bristol, am working down in London

at the moment and haven't had the time to switch them round yet.

Stick with 45-profile. When changing from the Pirellis you might want to think of something else less performance-orientated if ride and NVH are of more concern. But I had those on my 2nd Fabia to start with and thought they were fine for noise.

I'm thinking more along the lines of Goodyear EfficientGrip/Mich Pilot Primacy and similar...

How about Chopping in the Jabba for the Whiteline bar, it lets you have the RARB but is 3 point ajustable to soften it up a little ??

I'd swap my Whiteline ARB for a Jabba ARB if anyone is interested...

Good point steve. I've got two bridgestone er300's in the garage. When fitted the were more comfortable that pirelli's and toyo's.

My best mate does has a VRS with a remap and nothing more so that might be a nice back to back test although I do remember it being pretty choppy last time I went somewhere with him.

Maybe I am just getting old, or was spoilt by a day of driving the inlaws mk4 golf :)

Aaaaww, am I your best mate then?:blush::D

A remap and nothing more??!!! How very dare you! I think you'll find I have a PD160 thank you very much! AND 100w headlights!

The inlaws golf DOES have 18s on it don't forget. And it STILL felt better?! That was the first thing I noticed after changing from mk4 golf to fabia. (as well as banging my elbow on the drivers door as soon as I got in it - stupid small fabia interior!)

Like i say I don't drive it that much but it really grates on me when I do.

yeah i think a trip to see my mate who has a 55 plater with a third of the miles on for a comparison

It's a 54 plater Clifford, with 47.5k on it now. And i don't drive mine that much. But it really grates on me when I do too!!

Hmm i think if my shocks are shot anyways tyres are a bit of a trivial point.

thanks for the ECP link Garry might give them a buzz.

and it's be rude not to team new shock with Si's Eibach springs them see ;)

Fabia is due a service shortly anyhow (and MOT, and tyres oh expensive month how i've missed you) so will get my tame relative mechanic to see what he thinks.

With the Eibachs you'll want the B8s then mate

Tis definitely the age of components etc. Mines done 80k now and I can feel it a bit, and its totally stock.

Then again, hasten to add that one thing I had done is reduce my seat height.

Its amazing if you jack the seat back up to max, while the lumpiness of todays (poor) roads is still noticeable, its doesnt feel quite half as much when you have the seat at a reasonable height (which probably for someone like me at 6ft+ doesnt hurt, but I do like the extra legroom offered by dropping it down thats all)

I would say it probably is worn shocks/suspension

Koni FSDS and standard Skoda springs is what I run.......but fully polybushed allround! And 195/50R15 toyo proxes T1R tyres......great handling but still comfy.....I have a knackered back so need to protect it!!!! B)

Well got round to driving the furby without the rear anti roll bar. Has made an improvement to the ride at the rear of the car. Probably down to the rear wheels being more independent of each other. The suspension now soaks up the bumps as oppose to sending a shud through the rear of the car.

For the 15 minutes it takes to remove it's worth a try to see if it's want your after.

This is the exact reason why I won't fit one! B)

P.S. you might find you get better traction from the inside rear tyres on bumpy corners as the suspension can drop easier!!!

you mean this kind of thing might reduce grip :)

:giggle:

Be carefull......we only just over the various "movement" pics!! :giggle:

As that clearly shows a private track/airfield then fine.....but I've never done that in my car on the road....and no, I've never been on a track to do that to my car!

This should be default for all hatchbacks :)

At the same time as possible increasing rear grip now that I've removed it (less weight on the rear outside and more on the rear inside). In theory it should be much easier to induce wheel spin as their will be less weight over the front inside tyre and more on the outside front.
