indicator sounder has a mind of its own!

Featured Replies

hello, looking some advice. Have noticed that the indicator sounder has started to sound at random intervals while i am driving, but havent touched it. Sounds like the sounder is mounted behind the hazard warning triangle. Both hazard and individual indicator work as normal when used. Is this a relay issue, or should i just replace the hazard unit for a new one?? Just hope this is not a sign of more severe elctrical gremlins to come. Car is a 2002 octavia est.

Iv the exact same prob in my 02 vrs and yes it's a relay behind the hazard switch, supposedly there's a vw one which is better to change to, someone here might have part code for u

Working on the principle that the indicator relay (which is built into the hazard warning switch) is operated from the indicator stalk, I suggest some electrical contact cleaner sprayed into the base of the stalk and worked in to see if it has any affect on the problem.

Take a look at post #39 in http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/177453-leaking-rear-washer-pipe-might-have-caused-electrical-damage/

It will show you how to get cleaner into the stalk

I had the same problem but only when the indicator was switched on at the stalk. Replacing the relay assembly cured it.

As yours happens during normal driving I suggest the problem is in the stalk switch as suggested by fordfan and rwbaldwin.

For reference, the replacement hazard and indicator relay assembly is part no. 1U0 953 235 B.
