Is the 2yr service plan a no brainer?

Featured Replies

Just signed up for this as 1st service coming up. I intend to carry on with the fixed service routine but specify

VW504 (longlife oil) which is not as I understand it included in the £299 deal with fixed servicing.

Done about 8700 miles in a year of use(mixed 20 mile local trips and 150-250 mile longer round trips).

The figs for 2 yrs for comparison look like this...

2 yr plan £299 (£50 Skoda accessories voucher included).

Pay as you go as per dealer figs...

1st year £130 including about £25-30 extra for the long life oil. (£16 as opposed to £9 per litre x 3.6 litres)

2nd year £260 also including the extra cost of long life oil.

Total £390.

There was some talk of optional items at extra cost as shown on a puka Skoda service document but I'm not

sure they are included in the 2 year plan and dealer was a bit vague.

If I don't go with the longlife oil choice the cost for pay as you go for 2 services totals about £330 against

299-50 = £249 2yr plan.

As there is not much to buy for £50 in accessories I will use it to buy consumables...(wiper blades, screen wash and/or to pay for the long life oil.

I assume the £50 voucher has to be spent in one transaction.

Only snag I can see is if you have a write off during the period you don't get anything back.

Seemed like a no brainer unless you know different and I have overlooked something.

Bye the way viewed the 2012 model year Yeti and underwhelmed by any noticable improvements. I'm sure they have could have found some to add if they visited this forum.

I have this for my Octavia.

It does include long life oil, my car (regrdless of service regime) requires long life oil due to the fitting of a DPF.

I signed up late last year when the offer included £100 of vouchers.

Two services (one major) for £100 each is a no brainer for me.

The vouchers can be used to pay for additional parts not included in the service plan such as a cambelt fitting kit.

With your mileage, possibly, but doing over 12k a year on variable servicing it doesn't work out. Certainly for me on 16k a year it def isn't worth it.

I'm doing around 13,000 a year currently but from past experience I'm not a fan of the variable service, so also opted for this scheme. Even without the voucher it's still cheaper then the local dealers would charge for two services round here (Fixed or variable).
