On advice from Wardy I looked at the GoPro Hero camera.

Looked good, so I got one with the motorsport pack. Quite impressed, quality is good and with a decent sized SD card it'll do 2 hours work on a single charge.

Demo: (selectable up to 1080p HD but 480 non-HD runs better on my work computer)

Not great as sky was dull. But very smooth and raw footage is better than uploaded version.

I also tried a DogCam HD bullet camera which was OK, but only 90 minutes on a charge and the quality, while OK, was not quite as good as the GoPro seems to be, although on Youtube it's about the same. Unit is about £80 cheaper though.

We had some Blackvue units at work so I borrowed one of these too. Quality was not as good as the others though as it's a drive recerder more than a hobby video unit.

What are other people using?

That certainly looks a lot smoother than my £9 ebuyer special camera

That pigeon got out of the way just in time by the looks of things :D

What's the random clicking noise?

the sound of something rattling is really annoying tho.

pic quality is really good tho.

What's the random clicking noise?

The camera on the windscreen, it was not stuck down.

Switch the sound off, I don't have speakers at work. :giggle:

Next time I'll put some sound effects on instead.

'Tis a good bit of kit. Glad you're enjoying it :)

Yes, have noticed the difference between original footage, and when you upload it. That's YouTube for you; compressing and generally mucking about with the original article. Vimeo's pretty good for uploading HD-quality.

Sound is an issue with them. Like you say, better to put a soundtrack over it, or just cancel it out altogether. It does try, but it's that great at capturing realistically.

There are some great videos about using them, and Evo use them extensively as well. So they're clearly upto the task. Found a cracking one, where someone had mounted it inside the wheel and you could see the suspension moving! Think it was a 911 emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Wow. I like how you nearly wiped out the pigeon. :giggle:

We use them on the race cars, nice units that you can put pretty much anywhere. The wide angle is the best, so you can get a good view of the interior of the car and through the window. 60hz recording is good too..

What do you use for editing Kev?

I tried playing back the footage on my HD flat TV last night.

Holy Cow!

I can't believe how good the quality is, you just can't appreciate it on the computer.

Seriously impressed, cheers Wardy.

Kevin, which setting?

I'm using the 1080 HD option 5 view at the moment.

So I am sacrificing maximum lens angle for unbelievable quality.

Haha, I only recommend the good stuff :D

Yep, the raw footage is impressive as it's encoded properly in HD. Never really comes across in the footage you upload for people. Check out Vimeo though, and their HD upload service. You really need to pay to use it properly which is fair enough, but the standard account should give you a flavour. It's used quite widely for 'proper' video; as said YouTube is lacking in that regard really, as even their HD service compresses too much of the quality out. So their HD1080 option isn't really that at all emoticon-0149-no.gif

Tend to use Adobe Premiere Elements for editing, but interested to know what others do.

Richard.

Setting 4 i think it is. 720p but at 60hz. Have a look at the difference between 30 and 60hz at the same resolution, 60hz looks a lot smoother, glossier as such.

Wardy.

Tend to use Sony Vegas Pro, i think it lacks many features though and had thought about trying Premiere

Kev

The Elements version is decent and has all you need I reckon, without going silly.

There's a good priced bundled with Photoshop Elements too, around £65 which I thought was very good.
