Front end clunking but nearly everything has now been changed........

Featured Replies

So had some rattles, knocks and bangs from front end, mainly on offside.

Have now changed all the following:

Console bushes

ARB bushes

Offside drop-link

Offside ball-joint

I still have a clunk when pulling away or coming to a stop, so is moving in the axial direction of vehicle travel.

Is really doing my head in now and no idea what else to check and be looking for, any ideas???

Almost sounds like the whole lower wishbone is moving in the direction of the rear/front bushes but looked at this under the vehicle in a garage and couldn't see any issues.

Help!!

Andy

I'm getting my arb and console bushes changed so I hope that solves mine :) sorry to hear about your bad luck, a guy mentioned on here that it turned out to be his engine mount causing it, could be worth looking at?

Yep engine mount or gearbox mount. Noises can appear to be from one area but travel

Had a similar problem on mine not so long ago, had to have the front anti-roll bar replaced.

Please someone don't tell me there isn't a front anti-roll bar and I've been done.

In either case it cured the knocking. HTH.

Don't worry - There is a FARB - You've not been sold snake oil. ;)

Thanks all for the replies.

Took the car back to garage this evening and we had a good look over the underneath. Everything appeared solid and fine including the engine and gearbox mounts which were in very good condition.

Found nothing of concern so started to go back over all the work that had been done.......

....turned out that one of the front lower wishbone bolts (the one that goes through the front bush) wasn't rock-solid tight, tightened it 1/4 turn and now everything is spot on.

Note to self - always check the simple things first!!

(Just need to get the front wheels re-aligned now as steering wheel is not true)

Result!! :)

Skoda dealer did this to me couple of winters ago.....got console bushes replaced (didn't want to do it myself...later replaced those with PF myself).......and then the car kept feeling "loose".......finally got under car and found that the front pivot bolts where only finger tight!!!!! They got a rocket and they checked it all over again (I did anyway) :wall:
