Need a new gearbox!

Featured Replies

lol lol na i can remember you complained about it before. To be fair sometimes it is hard to pin point a noise but after the second visit you would have thought they would have got you to demonstrate the noise to them. Dont know wether to get the STS or go for a REVO. All my other cars have been to Falkland performance in glenrothes, Who even set up my clio cup which dyno'd at 227 BHP and ran 13.3's all day long ( damn i miss wiping smiles off peoples faces ) lol

Jeeez!!! :(

Do you still have the car? also what did it drive like after the repair? did they just change the box no clutch or flywheel??

Sorry for the questions but if this turns out to not be a warranty job i'm down the creek without a fecking paddle or life jacket! i'll be selling my ass up town.

They just swapped put the gearbox, synchro problem with third. Been sweet as a nut ever since and have clocked up 40k now.

Welllll.... it gets better EML on the dash car coughing like an asthmatic managed to limp to my mums in Glasgow called vw assistance who showed a Evap purge flow problem, its odd because it was the same problem i told newmarket about last week when i originally booked the car in for the clutch noise, starter problem and the purge valve :wonder: he cleared the code after a right good search around and poke about and the EML hasnt come back on drives fine, as much as the car seems a duffer the service so far from newmarket and the assitance has been awesome really.

Bob: i hope i get the same result lol its never thrashed but then i dont know what the previous owner has done.

Chris: i trust you will be handling my chariot on Tuesday  ;) I've got a copy of the recovery guys report, personally it needs a new valve but i'll leave that up to you, oh and a Diverter Valve :D

I'll be looking at the electrical side of things but it will be another tech doing the gearbox strip and dont worry he is really good, al keep an eye on things aswell. Should hopefuly be the end of your problems when you get it back then you can get back to enjoying the car.

Luvvly jubbly mate  i'll see ya tomorrow.

Had to get my gearbox changed earlier in the yr 3yrs old and just over 40k miles on it at the time, however the casing cracked on mine, due to the diff being so close to the casing, and constant heat and cooling, very thin casings apparently are used in the gearbox's

Hmmmm thats not good!

That said, there are also owners on here, with 100k plus and no gearbox/clutch issues - many also modified, with no problems.

Got a call from the dealers and its the gearbox bearings that are gone part is on back order and showing it will arrive in the uk tomorrow or monday no panic just glad that finally a dealership has listened to me seriously  although they didnt like us slagging there courtesy car :peek:

Good news on the 'box, even if the parts are on back-order.

Maybe they'll take the courtesy car comments as 'constructive criticism' ?

EDIT: just seen, the courtesy car thread has been deleted! Why?!

Any idea why those bearings would start to fail?? is it the lack of oil?

Any update yet?

yep, was told last week it would be end of this week as they needed "a special tool" :dull: got a call tonight to say it will be ready at 9:30am baring in mind the garage opens at 8:30am :giggle:

Cant wait to get it back.... straight to the Subaru dealer for that WRX STI i have seen

My car has now 98k. Remapped since new and Ko4 since 50k and gearbox still perfect.

I'm not saying to much more as they are refusing to work on the car because of my comments apparently.

Oh and I'm maybe being sued for liable for my opinion on there garage :giggle: hilarious honestly!!

So...

Not allowed an opinion on the courtesy they gave me (which was up for sale at the time they gave us it) so car review journalists better watch out.

Not allowed an opinion on the service and length of time they took to repair it , incidentally the service was brilliant i have said that all along they were the first garage to actually listen to me and investigate the car , the length of time to repair i wasn't bothered either we had a car to get around ok not the best and it wasnt ours but it was wheels and it was bloody great on fuel and had loads of space, until 7 days goes past they call to tell me they need a special tool(Puller for the bearing), they have had the car 7 days before deciding they needed this tool.

Needless to say the "rumbling" noise is still there so a call to Skoda Customer services is next and to seek legal advice and a independent transmission specialists opinion I'm taking this the full road.

That's a joke. You never made any derogatory remarks about the dealer, you actually praised them for listenng to you and looking at the car. It's not as though we have an abundance of dealers up here to choose from. It mainly some dealers that let the brand down.

Grizzle tut tut lol to be fair the comments were a bit harsh on the courtesy car after all it is a courtesy car and is at the discretion of the garage to supply one. Also sometimes it is easier to fone the dealership and talk through something if your unhappy or need something explained instead of posting it on here when others dont know the full story of the matter, at the end of the day we are very approachable and do take our jobs very seriously and strive to complete every job on the time agreed and to the highest standard and also go out of our way to help people in your situation when others wont.

tut tut nothing according to your head honcho's i need to "watch what i'm saying"

Sorry but if something needs said i will say it, The service was great this wasn't the issue, courtesy car was awful i made a tongue and cheek post about it but got it removed straight away but still think i'm entitled to my opinion on it which is its a crap car!

But to patronize me with some "we need a special tool" rubbish is a joke quite frankly, then to call me and my wife and threaten us over the phone with refusing to do any warranty work on the car and also to "watch what i'm saying" and "suing me for liable" is laughable at the very least, Alan's customer service skilss are seriously lacking and your "hide behind Alan" dealer principle really needs to grow balls and speak to us not pass on messages like some gangster.

Its all in hand though.

Did you get your car back Grizzel?

This little saga continues!!

Car booked in for Monday as i've had Skoda assit out 4 times for this Evap purge problem the valve was replaced by skoda assist who have been fantastic despite newmarket skoda being aware of the problem last month and done nothing! the last call out the guy said the evap line is blocked so will need the tank dropped and lines cleaned out!! (have you ever heard such a thing)

I have also spoke to Skoda UK about this DMF failure but they are going to leave it to Newmarket Skoda to investigate so will mention it to them on Monday no doubt will try an be fobbed off like last time as the starter motor is now starting to stay engaged at times and the both are related apparently.

Should be interesting another warranty claim for something that shoulda been fixed first time.

Customer is always right!!

I take it they just replaced the evap valve and not the charcoal canister? I replaced the valve on mine which did nothing, so I replaced the canister and the fault hasn't reappeared.

Skoda assist replaced the valve as it had a high resistance, but 2 days later the EML came on again, guy tested the valve which was new and tested the charcoal canister which he said was fine and most likely is the evap line thats blocked (how i dont know if its just vapours)
