Suspected Timing Chain Noise

Featured Replies

I have a 1.2 Mk1 Fabia Estate and I get a noise that sounds like metallic rattling under acceleration, which seems to be worse when the load is increased such as when the A/C is on.

I am assuming this is likely to be noise from the timing chain? If so is there anything I can do to make it go away without the cost of replacing anything? Such as cleaning the chain or adjusting tension etc?

Many thanks!

If it is the chain really you just need to get it changed.

ISTR reading on here mention of a problem with chain pre-tensioners on some early models. If that's the case I would get it seen to ASAP. As above chain needs to be changed (besides the main cost is in actually getting to the chain, so you may-as-well have it replaced and have some peace of mind), and if there's an issue with the pre-tensioner that needs to be replaced too.
