All season tyre life

Featured Replies

Can anybody comment on the wear life of all year use for the following tires please.

Scouty is going to need some new ones soon and want something a bit more suitable for winter than the summer tyres it came with.

Not looking for specifc winter tyre advice really in this question, I do not really want to have 2 sets of tyres so am looking for a set that can stay on and get a decent mileage out of.

Nokian eNtyre

Nokian WR G2

Goodyear vector 4 seasons

I can't comment on those but I run uniroyal rainsport 2 Tyres all year round. Had no problems travelling from Bristol to the peak district last year during all the snow.

Even after being td that the roads were only suitable for 4x4 and stopping in an uphill lay-by the car/tyres never let me down

Nokian have a new all seasons tyre, looks just like the WR-G2 which I have which already perform well outside winter. I stuck mine in the shed after 8,000 miles and they looked almost new. Good economy figures too.

Nokia All Weather is the one to go for.

Nokian wrg2 awesome. Was expecting some noise or soggy handling in the summer months but mine feel exactly the same as the pirelli rosso's they replaced. Also wear rates are fine , still 7mm tread after 5000 miles

cant remember make but we run all season tyres on everything at work all year round as we thravel all over Europe inc Germany cars too and we prob put 20K on cars every year and they are driven HARD inc full use of autoban speeds cars are all over a year old now and none have needed replaced! They were first class in snow and ice conditions even on compacted snow at -26Deg C. I was impressed!

Full winter tyres would wear a lot faster.

Looks ideal, but not in PITA Scout size. GRRRRRR.

I was warned about heavy tyre wear when I bought a set of Vector 4 Seasons and have been monitoring it quite closely as a result. So far they seem to be losing 1mm of tread every 3200 miles on average (more on the front, less on the back) so from 9mm down to 2mm they should last about 22,000 miles.

That's with fairly hard driving on a mixture of largely empty, twisty, rural A, B and unclassified roads, and almost no motorway use.

I found a very good report on winter v all season tyres in this PDF document

Not sure if you can hyperlink PDF docs but give it a go.

I've heard for the UK, the Quatrac 3 is pretty good for an all year tyre, as long as you've not expecting a performance tyre.

MYTYRES.CO.UK Have Nokian Entyre 225/50 R17 98V @ £121 per wheel , these are OK for Scout .

Slightly off-topic foo, what mileage have you got out of your factory fit Pirelli's?

I've just replaced my OEM Dunlop's at 26,000 miles, was wondering if the Pirelli's were any harder?

I didnt get pirelli's I think its conti's on mine 3500 miles so far I predict 4000 miles thi year so hopefully I will get back to you in a few more years :D

225/55 R 17 will also fit if that helps.

I'd have the eNtyre if I could find any reviews of it for winter use. There just is not much info.

Seemingly it has M+S but not snowflake markings.

I'm down to about 2.1mm at 20K.

Low enough to want to swap them before winter, especially with foo-offspring number 2 due days before xmas.

www.tyrereviews.co.uk have independent user reviews, and Snow gets a good write up.

Unless I change my mind before I free up the funds, I'm going to go Goodyear Vector 4 seasons.

If I can get 20K out of them the cost vs steelies and winter tyres is about the same over the next 4 years.

You can do your own googling (and youtube) and find that a good set of summers is better in the warmer months and proper winters are better when its cold - the "all seasons" tyres are as you would expect, not as good as either.

As Brundle is always saying, you need to be on the right tyre at all times.. i can understand the desire to not have to faff around with a switchover, but to me, the "jack of all trades" tyre is always going to be sub-optimal.

Spoken like a true VRS owner :-)

Vectors bear a snowflake so must have some credibility.

I hardly push the limits of my p-zero's now, so am sure I will be fine in summer. And in winter if I can get 80 % of the benefit that winter tyres afford us in the UK without any of the faff fiddling with my car then I will be a happy man and better off than the vast majority of motorists.

Wear rate (i.e. Economics) is my only real residual concern, hence the question.
