"beam Benders" Ex Halfords

Featured Replies

I cannot figger if it is diagram 4 or 8 (per Halfords instructions)

I take it our 2010 Elegence Octavia has projector lights? is a "bog standard" spec as far as I am aware

Cos I got the obscure circle in the middle of the dipped light, which per Halfords blurb is a "projector lamp"

So does the stick on circle go level with the centre or mounted at a 45 degree angle to a horizontal line.

Can anyone advise in the next 24 hours?

Cheers

Marcus

Yes, the Octavia has projector headlights.

No need for beam deflectors, the beam can be 'flattened' by moving a lever on the back of each headlight...

Thanks Silver

I posted my query as a "backstop" but am currently searching busily

I will try & figger the adjustment lever thinngy

I dinny like the idea of melting the polycarbonate lenses/lense covers ( per sommat I found on here already)

Undo nylon securing nut on back of light cluster under bonnet.

Push small black square tab and pull hook on side of light cluster to unlock and release unit forward.

(Light cluster released)

Remove main larger rubber cap. (can be all done without unplugging as I did with first one only removed to counter for pic!)

Now the 2 metal levers are visible they appear to be on a bezel and moving one also moves the other simply move to opposite position.

Reassemble in reverse order and job done.

Final result.

Have you bought the Halfords beam converters yet?

If I remember correctly they include instructions on how to locate them correctly on the headlight...

Sniff, yes

Should have come on here first :'(

sigh

Anyway

Thank you very much Silver

I have NEVER bothered before settled for simply screwing the dipped beam down as low as it would go, dip adjustment was electrically operated on der Galaxy.

Mind with a tonne of wine & beer in the rear they were generally still a tiddly wee bit high (ish)on the ret journey.

But seeing as we intend to take the Octavia back to her homeland I would not wish to cause unnecessary offence.

Anyway anyway No4 it is if I choose to fit Halfords "stick ons", but since we are away a month the heat/melting could be an issue.

Cheers

Again

PS

Senior Managment WILL be impressed if she sees me "tinkering" on the last night (with a 05:00 start the next morning.)

bye bye

I picked up a second hand set of headlight protectors and put the beam deflectors on there. 1 minute job to fit, no problems at all for 2500 miles round Europe.

Just back from Denmark/Sweden and did the flick'o'the'switch with the beam flattening trick. Took 2 mins and only needed to remove the nearside headlight unit - the offside I did insitu. Much quicker/easier than sticking stuff on the unit itself.

With my old Octy I used deflectors.

As "easy" as the flatlining is - it's not pratical to start doing it inside the CHannel Tunnel ready for the drive home.

The Halfords ones work just fine - don't use their diagrams, just look logically where the beam is "projected" and place the deflector accordingly.

All I can say is thanks to Xenon's and Maxidot this kind of issue is now easily solved with a press of a couple of buttons on my new Octy.
