Octavia aircon - front demister

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Since i bought the car the aircon didn't work. So the other day i took it to an AC specialist to sort out.

The pressure sensor had gone so that was replaced, the gas refilled and then the engine fault code cleared.

Seems good.

The only issue is that sometimes the aircon doesnt seem to work, i have to stop and start the car again to get it going.

This was especially noticeable last night, i got in the car after the gym and was very hot and sweaty, the front window steamed up. I pressed the two buttons on the left circular wheel to do the front and rear windows.

Air was diverted to the front windscreen but it would not clear. The entire inside of the window misted up. The setting was on the lowest it can go (below 16C).

I pulled over, stopped the car, turned ignition off, key out, key in, restart engine, and then it all works fine... within 20secs the front windscreen was clear.

Why could this be?

A fault?

Cheers

Still wondering why this happens with my aircon. Though I dont restart the car. I turn the aircon off and back on again and it all seems to come back on fine. There is a similar thread on intermittant aircon recently-but people are putting this down to a lack of gas or failed compressor. In my case both have been replaced recently and shows no VCDS errors (or logs any fault codes).

I assume both of you don't have the ECON button pressed since this usually results in the window misting up.

If the air is blowing out on the windscreen and it's still not clearing then the moisture level in the air is to high, try running the zircon on a high heat with the front windows slightly open for a while to room moisture from the car/system

Could it be that on humid days, if you blast the front screen with freezing cold air it has a tendency to mist up?

Why not try leaving it set to AUTO and a temperature of around 17-18 degrees and let the Climate Control work it out? You can of course force the front screen demister on as well if the screen is misting up still.

I was thinking the same thing. If you're getting into the car after the gym and adding heat and humidity to the car's interior, you'll need some heat on the screen to clear this.
